Scope



This position involves a range of maintenance activities related to the repair and renovation of park structural assets.

In this role, you will work under the direction of the Park Technician, Park Structures Coordinator, Structures Superintendent and the Section Manager to perform manual and semi-skilled tasks involving considerable physical effort. Work will focus on renovating, maintaining, and constructing park structures of greater complexity than the Structural Worker 1 level.

Responsibilities



As a Structural Worker 2, you will:



Assist Park Operations staff in construction activities including site layout, applying finishing materials, framing and form work, renovation and refinishing, assembly and installation of site fixtures, and placing and finishing concrete.

Participate in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of park structures such as bridges, boardwalks, shelters, stairs, picnic shelters, backstops, fencing, and other structural assets to ensure safety and longevity.

Perform building maintenance work related to interior and exterior repairs, including carpentry, painting, concrete, and fixtures.

Assist in the maintenance and renovation of park amenities including playgrounds, water parks, sport courts, youth parks, park buildings, park signage, lighting systems, and utility services.

Provide supervision and direction to part-time and seasonal staff, supporting safe work practices and desired outcomes.

Qualifications



The successful candidate will also possess the following:



Completion of grade 12,

A course on supervision

Completion of five additional courses from an accredited post-secondary education institution including, but not limited to the following course areas:

Blueprint and plan reading

Structural materials

Grading and drainage

Use of survey equipment

Landscape construction

Carpentry

Certification as a Canadian Certified Playground Inspector, CSA

Certification as a Canadian Playground Inspector to be obtained within one year.

You have a minimum of 2 years' experience and training in the renovation and construction of structure

Valid BC Driver's License

Sound knowledge of construction materials, assemblies, and procedures, and competency on standard hand and power tools.
