Your Role
We are looking for a technically skilled and creative Structural Steel Detailer / Engineer to join our Design & Engineering Team. You will be working closely with architects, engineers, plant team and project managers to design structural steel/CFS modules. You will be primarily responsible for the delivery of issued for manufacturing drawings, ensuring accurate coordination with the architectural and MEP packages issued by multi-disciplinary teams of consultants. Other responsibilities include participating in R&D and working on advanced structural solutions and custom details to improve the efficiency of BECC's modular systems. To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate exceptional technical skills using computer-aided drawing, modelling, and project management tools. The ideal candidate will have an excellent eye for detail, a deep understanding of various building systems and superior collaboration skills.
Key Responsibilities
Develop accurate, detailed structural steel shop drawings and models using AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or Advance Steel.
Interpret and incorporate architectural and structural engineering drawings into detailed steel fabrication plans.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, including relevant building codes and BECC manufacturing requirements
Collaborate closely with structural and MEP engineers, architects, and project managers to resolve design challenges.
Generate Bill of Materials (BOM), Cut Sheets, and reports for fabrication and installation.
Issue, reply and track RFI; create reports and track work performance as required.
Review and cross-check drawings for accuracy, constructability, and adherence to design specifications.
Communicate with BECC's plant team, design consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
Ensure timely release of deliverables such as working drawings, schedules, BOMs and details as per established timelines.
Apply connection design principles in coordination with the external structural design consultants.
Utilize 3D modeling software for visualization and clash detection.
Maintain and update drawing revisions and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Develop full understanding of BECC design standards and principles to provide feedback to the Plant Team and/or Clients
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum 6 years of experience in structural steel detailing and/or structural engineering.
Certificate/Diploma in Engineering Technology.
Deep understanding of building science and building systems integration.
Proficiency in Tekla Structures, Autodesk Advance Steel, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Procore. Experience with BIM workflows.
Solid understanding of structural engineering principles, steel framing systems, and fabrication techniques.
Familiarity with industry standards, steel fabrication processes, and building and welding codes
Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings with precision.
Experience with connection detailing and steel member design considerations.
Previous experience in modular construction or pre-engineered steel building systems is a plus.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to legally work in Canada, work permit, visa or PR already obtained.
