Your opportunity

Dillon\xe2\x80\x99s Structural technical group is looking for a Structural Engineer-In-Training to join our
multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting
projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

At Dillon, we operate as one team. This position is available at our Dillon office in Ottawa. Responsibilities:
What your day will look like
Technical Work (94%)

  • Assistance with site investigations and condition assessments
  • Assistance with contract administration tasks including construction observation, shop drawing review, contractor submittal review, progress payment preparation, and responding to requests for information
  • Assistance to project managers with structural and multi-disciplinary projects
  • Assistance in the preparation of structural designs including:
    • building, bridge, culvert, and marine design
    • engineering studies
    • technical specifications
    • design calculations
  • Completion of design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion
  • Completion of the review of safe work practices and performing risk assessments for employee tasks
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary team members
  • Contribution to business development activities including client need research, preparation of project proposals and presentations
  • Contributions to Dillon\xe2\x80\x99s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
  • Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request
  • Participation in the Early Career Development program

Qualifications:
What you will need to succeed
Education
  • A degree in civil or structural engineering. A Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in structural engineering will be considered an asset.
  • One to two years\xe2\x80\x99 work experience with exposure to consulting is considered an asset, however, new graduates will be considered
Experience:
  • Knowledge of relevant municipal/provincial engineering standards and regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices
  • Understanding of the range of project design and implementation activities including development of design drawings and reports, contract document preparation, tendering, and contract administration
  • Working knowledge of current AutoCAD and Civil 3D software will be considered an asset
  • Working Knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6) and experience working on bridge structures is considered an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization and interpersonal skills
