Based in beautiful British Columbia, our Client is a growing Engineering firm providing single-point-of-contact relationships for a diverse portfolio of clients in Oil and Gas, Mining and Transportation across Western Canada, the Northwest Territories and Pacific US.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Senior P.Eng, the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is responsible for the preliminary structural design of concrete and steel structures including bridges, parkades, industrial steel, shoring and foundations for approval by the P.Eng. Working a Hybrid schedule based out of our Client's North Vancouver head office, the successful candidate will serve as an integral part of a small team to produce high-quality, high-value designs that meet the diverse needs of their client group throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the NWT.

The ideal candidate will have graduated from a CEAB-accredited Engineering program and have already attained some level of practical experience working specifically in Bridge Design or Temporary Works. A mathematically sound, highly detailed and analytical individual, the successful candidate will be looking to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative yet self-managed culture with the goal of developing into a P. Eng in the near future.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering
  • Professional registration within the Western Canadian provinces is strongly preferred, but not required at the EIT level
  • Only Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada will be considered. Our Client does not have an LMIA or ability to provide international sponsorship
  • Practical professional Engineering experience in the Civil/Industrial/Manufacturing industries is a must
  • Experience working on heavy industrial projects, transportation infrastructure, and manufacturing specifically with Bridge Design (Resource infrastructure and MOTI-type projects) strongly preferred
  • Detailed background in deep pile foundations, excavation shoring, concrete formwork (Temporary Works) is strongly preferred
  • Background in GA drawings, erection plans, crane lift and rigging plans
  • Proven ability to visually communicate concepts and ideas through highly detailed drawings
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with complete fluency in the English language
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and AutoCAD with working knowledge of Revit, Tekla or Risa
Responsibilities of the Position

LEADERSHIP & COMMUNICATION
  • Establish good working relationships and communication with vertically integrated business peers, discipline leads and client(s)
  • Participate in critical project meetings with client, authorities and regulators
  • Solve problems of various degrees of complexity in a timely fashion
  • Prepare and present solutions to meet stakeholder requirements
PLANNING & COORDINATION
  • Work directly with the Client, Engineer Partners and Project Team to understand Project and Client requirements
  • Ensure project deliverables satisfy stakeholder quality standards and are implemented in a timely, cost effective and consistent manner while considering safety by design
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Team to ensure the Client's construction requirements are met including responses to site queries, and coordination on engineering designs and shop drawings
  • Organize engineering, design and procurement resources required in partnership with P.Eng; assigning and allocating resources to the project(s) at hand when necessary
DESIGN
  • Prepare preliminary and conceptual designs and cost estimates by studying site information and related customer documents, including geology and hydrogeology information
  • Collaborate with the Drafting and Design teams to ensure all project deadlines are met
  • Conduct technical/design reviews and verify calculations to ensure accuracy, providing technical direction to the Drafting team(s) when necessary
  • Identify and resolve areas of concern within the Drafting and Engineering functions, both at the project and the functional level in partnership with the P.Eng
