David Nairne & Associates Ltd (DNA) is a multi-disciplinary firm of civil engineers, structural engineers, architects, planners, and project managers. With more than 50 years of experience and a team of 60+ professionals, we work on unique projects throughout BC and northern Canada. Our client base includes Federal, Provincial, Indigenous, and Metis governments, as well as government agencies and private sector developers. Many of our projects are in stunning, remote communities where our work has meaningful impact.
Job Summary
We are seeking a self-motivated and team oriented Structural Engineer, EIT to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse structural engineering projects across British Columbia, from urban centers to remote communities. These include a diverse variety of challenging assessment, renovation, new construction, seismic upgrading and civil infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects while developing their professional expertise under the guidance of our experienced senior engineers, and alongside our architects.

Primary Objectives
Support the delivery of high-quality structural engineering solutions for diverse projects across BC
Develop technical expertise through hands-on experience with complex structural challenges progressively taking on greater responsibility
Assist in building strong client relationships through professional field work and direct engagement
Contribute to the growth and success of DNA's structural engineering practice by collaborating with team members and actively learning firm standards and processes
Job Responsibilities
Technical Excellence
Support structural engineering analysis using industry-standard software and methodologies
Assist in developing innovative and practical structural design solutions for various project types
Participate in condition assessments of existing structures
Research and analyze complex engineering data to inform design decisions
Client Engagement & Field Work
Travel to local and remote locations throughout BC to meet with clients and stakeholders
Conduct thorough field reviews and site investigations
Represent DNA professionally during client interactions and project meetings
Project Delivery
Provide construction administration services, including cost estimations throughout project lifecycle
Prepare detailed technical reports and compelling project proposals
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated project delivery
Support additional duties as required to meet project and organizational objectives
Skills and Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Registered (or eligible) Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (required); Master's degree in Structural is an asset
Minimum of 2 years local, structural design experience in building projects
Valid BC driver's license with ability to travel independently
A strong interest and experience in wood frame design and construction considered an asset
Essential Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (i.e. S-FRAME, Sizgner, Forte WEB, AutoCAD etc.)
Proficient in office and project software (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Bluebeam)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Travel Requirements
Willingness and ability to travel to local and remote locations for 1-3 days at a time
Average travel frequency of once or twice per month, with seasonal variations based on project demands

Working Hours
Full-time position, typically 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
8 hours per day, core hours are 10 AM to 3 PM
May include evening or weekend work as required to meet client needs
