Structural Designer

Job Description

The Packaging Designer will work directly with customers, outside vendors, the sales team and the manufacturing plant to design packaging for a medium-sized box manufacturer in Richmond Hill.

You will be responsible but not limited to performing the following tasks:

Meeting with stakeholders to gather information, analyze objectives and create solutions that exceed client, sales and manufacturing expectations Create a design using Artios/CIMEX software keeping in mind manufacturing constraints as well as choosing material that will structurally support the design but also be cost effective Cut out samples on the CAD table and at times create full colour mockups using Epson prints with assistance from the graphic design team Prioritize projects based on business needs Document and organize all designs and customer requirements Update ERP Software with design information Utilize Cape Software to develop packaging specifications for die lines. Utilize Artios Software for 3D renderings and design of efficient layouts for blanked and non-blanked jobs Utilize Kongsberg table for cutting customer samples, coating blankets and mockups. Ordering of tooling and supplies when needed. Other tasks and responsibilities as requested by management

Required Education and Skills:



Diploma and/or advanced degree in Packaging Engineering or related field 2+ years of experience in packaging design Creative in finding packaging solutions Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced changing business environment Knowledge of the entire design process from inception, analyzing, testing, prototyping and production Effective communication and technical writing skills are required with the ability to discuss technical issues Proficient with CAD table cutters (Kongsberg), Artios Software, CIMEX, Cape Software, Adobe Creative Suite, all Microsoft software (Excel, Word, etc.) in a PC Environment Highly organized and detail oriented with strong documentation skills Experience with Windows Server Strong project management experience Ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm and innovation Strong client service attitude and leadership capabilities Experience working with all levels of the organization, both technical and non-technical Strong problem solving and analytical skills Provide support outside of normal work hours when necessary Participate in an on-call process Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
