Rural Roots Engineering and Design Ltd is a full-service engineering consultancy focused on the needs of the rural economy in Atlantic Canada. Although we have considerable expertise in agricultural and food process engineering, we are happy to work on a range of commercial and light industrial projects.
We are seeking an experienced
Structural Designer
to join our team. In this role, you'll contribute to the design and delivery of structural projects from early concepts through construction. You'll balance office-based design work with field reviews, giving you the chance to see your designs built and play an active role in resolving construction challenges. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both technical design and collaborating directly with clients, contractors, and engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting:
Produce accurate and detailed structural drawings, models, and design documentation using CAD/BIM software.
Engineering Support:
Translate engineering calculations and concepts into clear, practical documents that comply with codes and standards.
Field Reviews & Documentation:
Conduct site visits to observe construction, document findings through reports and photos, and work with engineers to address field questions and resolve issues.
Collaboration & Client Interaction:
Coordinate with colleagues, contractors, and clients, supporting meetings and providing professional communication, with a level of urgency that matches stakeholder expectations.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Civil/Structural Engineering Technology, Drafting & Design, or related discipline.
3-6 years of experience in structural design or drafting.
Strong proficiency with BricsCAD, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software.
Solid understanding of structural systems, construction practices, and building codes.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, including experience preparing technical documentation.
Comfortable engaging with clients and contractors in both office and field setting
