Land and Resource Specialist
Scientific Technical Officer - Resource R27 This position is also posted as an LSO (Forester) 3 Requisition 95366 An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and / or temporary opportunities. We currently have one (1) temporary opportunity until December 2023 that may become permanent or extended. Join a dynamic team of natural resource management professionals in Campbell River The Ministry of Forests is responsible for stewardship of the province\xe2\x80\x99s Crown land and natural resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the ministry makes, supports and advises on stewardship decisions for BC\xe2\x80\x99s land and resources, and delivers services to provide environmental, economic, cultural and social benefits for all British Columbians. The focus of this Land and Resource Specialist role is on natural resource management, including forestry management issues related to old growth forests within the Campbell River Natural Resource District. This involves working with Indigenous communities, industry and other stakeholders on a path forward to a new old growth strategy. This position bridges environmental, social and economic disciplines of natural resource management to advance policy, ministry priorities and strategies, and operational delivery of stewardship outcomes. The Land and Resource Specialist will work with a diverse project team of multidisciplinary specialists across multiple agencies and is responsible for the management, coordination and delivery of strategic initiatives from initiation through to conclusion. This position deals with complex natural resource issues involving multiple stakeholders and First Nations. Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) or an equivalent combination of education/training; AND, 3 or more years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working in a natural resource discipline; OR,
  • A Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) or an equivalent combination of education/training; AND, 5 or more years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working in a natural resource discipline.
  • Demonstrated recent (within last 5 years) and relevant experience working in natural resource management in a direct, matrix or project management environment.
  • Demonstrated recent (within last 3 years) experience in a multiple stakeholders and partners environment understanding perspectives, conflicts and facilitating/developing solutions.
  • Recent (within last 3 years) experience related to First Nations consultation, collaboration and relationship building with Indigenous communities in British Columbia.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Licence, or equivalent.

Preferences:
  • Demonstrated recent (within last 5 years) experience and/or knowledge with regional land use planning processes in the context of natural resource management in BC.
  • Experience with geospatial analysis and data preferred.
  • Demonstrated recent (within last 5 years) and relevant experience managing technical and/or professional staff in natural resource management in a direct, matrix or project management environment.
