About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager within the Endoscopy unit, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for all duties associated with the collection and distribution of patient care items and the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization handling and storage of patient care medical equipment and supplies. All responsibilities are carried out in adherence to professional standards, manufacturers instructions and departmental policies and procedures.

About You

  • Grade XII
  • Successful completion or current enrollment in a Central Service Technical Training Program
  • If no qualified applicants, will consider applicants who are willing to obtain certification within 12 months
  • Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control preferred
  • Membership with the Central Service Association of Nova Scotia preferred
  • Previous experience working in the setting preferred
  • Experience operating SPD related equipment
  • Training and experience in the reprocessing of endoscopes using the Mediavator system, Steris system familiarity an asset
  • Knowledge of Universal Precautions and Infection Control measures
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to problem solve
  • An aptitude for tasks requiring manual dexterity and technical skill
  • Computer experience
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Successful candidate is required to take and successfully pass a functional assessment to determine the physical capabilities to do the job
  • Physical Demands: Repetitive bending, repetitive lifting and carrying up to a maximum of 30 pounds, repetitive pushing and pulling carts up to a maximum of 400 pounds. Constant standing and walking. Exposure to chemicals, blood and body fluids and extreme heat and humidity as well as loud noise.

Hours
  • Full time Long Assignment; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • This opportunity has an anticipated end date of March 31, 2024
  • Shifts include days, evenings, nights and weekends (or other specific hours of shifts)
  • Travel to various sites may be required.
  • A skill test will be included as part of the selection process.
Compensation and Incentives

$21.68 - $25.42 Hourly
