Job Description

Job description:

Join our vibrant EmpowHERto team as a STEM Workshop & Program Facilitator (for either our Coding, Data Analytics or AI departments), where you'll spark imagination, build confidence, and make STEM come alive for BIPOC girls and young women across Toronto. In this role, you won't just teach, you'll create culturally relevant, hands-on experiences that help our girls see themselves as innovators, builders, and future leaders in tech and science.

This volunteer role is perfect for someone who loves youth, enjoys experimenting, and believes learning should be fun, empowering, and reflective of our girls' stories, culture, and lived experiences. You will help build an inclusive environment where creativity, exploration, and teamwork are at the center.

Responsibilities

Lead fun, interactive, and culturally relevant STEM workshops designed for girls ages 13-17, making lessons hands-on, exciting, and easy to understand. Create a positive learning atmosphere by using effective classroom management strategies rooted in respect, patience, and encouragement. Prepare materials, set up activities, and ensure all equipment and tools are safe and ready for use. Support participants' social-emotional growth through active listening, positive affirmations, and consistent encouragement. Work with the Program Managers to edit activities and workshop content that reflect the communities we serve and align with youth development goals. Maintain strong safety practices during workshops, including basic first aid awareness and emergency preparedness. Communicate with parents/guardians as needed regarding attendance, engagement, or program updates. Help track participant involvement, feedback, and workshop outcomes. Bring creativity whether through storytelling, pop culture, music, or hands-on building to make STEM feel accessible and fun.

Experience & Skills

Experience working with youth (daycare, tutoring, mentorship, camp counseling, coaching, after-school programs, etc.). Confidence managing a group of energetic young learners with patience, empathy, and structure. A basic understanding of STEM concepts OR excitement to learn hands-on experiments, activities, coding basics, engineering challenges, etc. Experience working with youth with diverse learning styles or special needs is a strong plus. A genuine passion for empowering BIPOC girls through culturally relevant education and belonging-centered experiences.

Why This Role Matters

You'll help create affirming, joyful, and transformative STEM experiences for girls who are often underrepresented in tech and science. Your energy and creativity can inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers, and problem-solvers.
