Tasks

Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials Instruct apprentices Supervise other workers Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress Install exterior and interior steel studs Install door, window and other hardware Fabricate and install suspended metal ceiling grids and place in panels to form acoustical and coffered ceilings Install metal stud framing and furring for interior drywall or plaster walls and ceilings, using hand and power tools Install acoustic tile, hangers for suspended ceilings and metal studs for composition wallboard or lath
