About Us
Incorporated in 1955, Ocean Steel services several markets, including Atlantic Canada, the Eastern United States, Bermuda and the Caribbean. Although they specialize in fabricating and erecting structural steel for buildings and bridges, they also manufacture and install platework, such as breechings, stacks, ducts, penstocks, process & storage tanks and custom process-equipment. Ocean Steel\'s two New Brunswick plants include the original location in Saint John, as well as the York Steel Plant in Fredericton, which was acquired by Ocean Steel in 1995.
Responsibilities
- Obtain steel structures or handrails via overhead crane from Detail Man or Crane Operator
- Set up welding machine via remote or manually using control buttons
- Hold welding whip to tack welds and finish welding jobs
- May use a variety of welding machines (Mig, Semi-automatic)
- Transport steel structure via overhead crane to Wheelabrator, paint shop or directly outside via buggy
- Use of overhead cranes
- Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification (Block 1)
- Completion of college/CEGEP/Vocation or Technical Training or equivalent experience
- Welding Trade Certification is considered a definite asset
- 1 to 3 years\' experience in structural steel welding
