Note: Various locations - ability to work effectively in a team environment within a 24/7 shift operation.
Successful candidates should expect to work overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays, per applicable employment legislation (including collective agreement).

JOB SUMMARY


Service Area Mandate: Rail Operations manages the delivery of diesel and electric rail services, including management of the thirty-year P3 contract with the Rideau Transit Maintenance Group for the rail maintenance contract for the LRT system, ensuring safe and reliable operations that meet service standards, comply with all regulatory safety and operating requirements, and provide a safe, reliable, efficient, effective, on time, courteous and cost-effective rail service to a growing and diverse City of Ottawa. You are responsible for providing on-site customer and operational support at transit stations to facilitate the seamless delivery of rail and bus service to customers, under the direction and/or supervision of a Supervisor as assigned. You maintain a presence at the assigned station, platform, or other assigned location.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Completion of Grade 12 Minimum of 1 year of experience in a customer service environment. Previous experience in transit or rail operations is an asset

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES


Must obtain Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates within the time frame determined by the employer
Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certificate of rules qualification is an asset

KNOWLEDGE


  • Knowledge of Ottawa’s public transit system and municipal structure.
  • Legislation, policies, regulations, guidelines and operational procedures relevant to the City’s rail and bus operations and transit system;
  • Legislation, policies, regulations, guidelines and operational procedures relevant to providing fully-accessible service for customers with disabilities;
  • Working knowledge of computers, word processing software such as Microsoft Office and other technology and communications systems; and,
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

  • Candidates must be able to pass medical testing as set out in Transport Canada’s “Railway Medical Rules for Positions Critical to Safe Railway Operations”

  • Ability to perform moderate physical activities, lifting boxes of promotional material, standing for long periods of time at stations
  • Ability to work at open air transit stations in all weather conditions
  • Willing to work shift work including weekends, overnight shifts, split shifts and statutory holidays
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Language Requirement: Designated Day 1 Ready – immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
  • Candidates must be able to pass medical testing as set out in Transport Canada's "Railway Medical Rules for Positions Critical to Safe Railway Operations".
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate, valid CPR-Level C, and valid AED (defibrillator) must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to communicate in a language other than French or English will be considered an asset.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
