Duties/Responsibilities:

The Stage Manager oversees the technical, production, and stage management details for all orchestra events and ensures details are executed on-site as assigned by the Production and Stage Manager, via the following:

Responsible for the execution of technical, production, and stage management details for all assigned events including set-up/strike and concert management (i.e. show calls & management of stage moves).

Work in collaboration with the Artistic Department and house technical crew to satisfy the staging and equipment requirements for each rehearsal and performance, including the preparation of stage plots. Remain available to Music Director and Director of Production & Operations during all rehearsals and performances to assist with tasks, sets changes, requests, etc.

Ensure the physical work environment for orchestra is safe, conducive to music-making, and in compliance with the Collective Agreement. Provide sound shields, ear protection, and other relevant equipment as requested by musicians

Assist the Director of Production & Operations with the supervision of audio, lighting, video and other technicians supporting WSO productions at our home venue, the Centennial Concert Hall, on run-outs provincially, or on national/international tours.

Ensure orchestra & guest artist dressing rooms and warm-up areas are available and in good condition.
Arrange and purchase artist hospitality as needed. Support guest artists with ground transportation requirements.

Responsible for the safe transport and storage of WSO equipment.

Assist the Director of Production & Operations with the budgeting, planning and execution of efficient crew calls for all WSO activities.

Maintain accurate inventory records of WSO stage equipment, instruments and other items stored at the concert hall.

Season planning: assist the Director of Production & Operations by reviewing technical riders, concert production schedules, and flagging any potential problems prior to season announcement.

Make archival audio/video recordings if necessary

Provide operational support to other WSO departments to ensure their successful event planning & execution.

All other duties as assigned by the WSO\xe2\x80\x99s Artistic Planning Department

Requirements: Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Completion of a post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in technical theatre, or equivalent professional experience.

At least three years of recognized professional experience working in a professional theatre fly house

Experience with theatrical concert lighting

Experience working in a variety of other venues such as concert halls, black box theatres and outdoor spaces is an asset.

Solid problem solving, decision making including the ability to research and present options.

Effective written and verbal communication, as well as proven organisational skills.

Ability to balance multiple, large projects and day-to-day activities successfully.

Self-motivated

Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word and Excel

Knowledge in Vectorworks, AutoCAD or similar CAD software

Special Requirements
Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule, and weekends.

Nice To Have
Basic audio/video skills

Ability to read music

Experience calling fly cues with counterweight rigging system, for music, theatre, drama, opera or dance performances

Understanding of current Occupational Health & Safety standards and regulations

Experience with OPAS or other orchestra management software

Additional Info: POSITION INFORMATION

As an employee of the WSO, the terms of the employment are subject to an agreement between the WSO and IATSE Local 63.

The incumbent shall be, or be able to become, a member of IATSE Local 63.

The incumbent is required to provide the WSO with a completed criminal record check (along with both the vulnerable sector and Child Abuse Registry checks), at the incumbent\xe2\x80\x99s expense, prior to the start of employment.
