Staff Development Engineer - Hardware/Software Integration

Infinera is now with the coherent XR point-to-multipoint technology transforming the way optical networks are designed and operated. The Infinera transceivers are vertically integrated, levering our in-house DSP and optics technology. To follow up on the initial success, we are seeking talented individuals to be at the forefront of this paradigm shift in optical networks. The successful candidate within the R&D Hardware team will have a key role in the development and cross-functional integration of Infinera\xe2\x80\x99s next generation coherent optical transceivers. This rewarding role requires multitasking and interfacing with various cross-functional groups.

Location: Ottawa, Ontario on Site

Key Responsibilities:
Work with multi-disciplinary team to support the development, integration and test of coherent optical products and evaluation boards involving complex ASICs and optical modules

  • Perform HW/SW integration during bring-up of new boards including DSPs, microcontrollers, SERDES, L2/L3 switches, PHYs, high-speed ADCs and DACs
  • Write and debug device driver interfaces to enable and verify functionality
  • Specify, implement and verify firmware functionality to support development and manufacturing test
  • Work with custom Software Development Kits for complex ASICs to enable device configuration, functionality and performance validation
  • Develop and use debug tools and scripts for ASICs, board bring-up, and networking protocols
  • Hands-on debugging of HW issues in a lab environment
Education & Experience Necessary for Success:
  • Experience in software bring-up of new cards and performing HW/FW/SW integration
  • Experience developing embedded software and diagnostic firmware for network communication systems using C++ or C
  • Experience developing scripting in Python, MS Visual Basic
  • Experience with component devices used in network communication products, such as L2/L3 switches, GE/10GE PHYs, DDR-SDRAM, FPGA/CPLD, Serdes and Framers, pluggable optical modules
  • Experience with embedded processor bring-up: boot load, Linux, RTOS BSP, device drivers, memory configurations
  • Hands-on experience with JTAG debugger, oscilloscope, and logic analyzer
  • Familiar with version control tools and bug tracking systems: git, JIRA
  • Knowledge of communication buses and interfaces used in networking products, such as MDIO, I2C, SPI, PCIe, etc.
  • Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing, modulation/demodulation such as PAM4, QPSK, 16QAM and control systems
  • Knowledge of networking and communication protocols such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, etc.
  • Minimum of 3 years industry experience, involving HW/SW integration for telecom specifically
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Good team player with strong attention to detail, organizational skills and demonstrated problem solving abilities
  • BS. or MS. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
