Staff Accountant

Calgary, AB, CA, Canada

Job Description

Why Join VR?

At VR, we don't just crunch numbers -- we elevate businesses. Our clients are ambitious, our team is tight-knit, and every day brings new opportunities to solve problems, build relationships, and make a meaningful impact.

We believe in Service -- not just to our clients, but to each other. That means going the extra mile, anticipating needs before they arise, and always asking: How can we make this better?

The Role - Staff Accountant

This isn't your typical accounting job. At VR, our Staff Accountants are trusted advisors, problem-solvers, and collaborators. You'll work closely with clients and team members to deliver high-quality work, challenge assumptions, and contribute to a culture of service and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

You'll take ownership of a variety of client engagements and internal projects, including:

- Complete small to mid-sized compilation engagements with attention to detail

- Challenge all aspects of these engagements, including tax planning

- Assist with review and audit engagements, including financial statement disclosures

- Prepare corporate, personal and trust tax returns, as well as T4/T5 slips

- Prepare GST returns and payroll calculations

- Perform bookkeeping procedures, as required

- Respond to various CRA requests (i.e. GST and tax reviews)

- Various projects, as required (i.e. cash flow projections)

- Track deadlines and contribute to timely completion (overtime may be required)

- Participate in professional development and continuous learning

What You Bring

We're looking for someone who's not just capable -- but exceptional. You're the kind of person who sees what needs to be done and does it before anyone asks. You're:

- Obsessed with service and making others' lives easier

- A critical thinker who thrives on solving problems

- Highly organized and able to juggle multiple priorities

- A clear communicator who knows how to get things done

- Curious, creative, and always looking for ways to improve

- Tech-savvy and comfortable with CaseWare, JazzIt, TaxPrep, QuickBooks and Sage

- Successful completion of an accounting program

- 1-2 years of recent public practice experience

Growth and Opportunity

This role is what you make it. Whether you're early in your career or bring years of experience, we'll meet you where you are and support your growth. If you bring initiative, ideas, and drive, we'll give you the space to grow -- whether that's expanding your responsibilities, leading new projects, or helping shape how we operate. We're committed to your development and success.
