Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for position of St. Mary's Boat Club Front Desk Staff in the Recreation Programming division of Parks & Recreation.

As a Front Desk Staff you'll be providing assistance to clients interested in renting the St. Mary's Boat Club (SMBC). This involves promptly responding to emails, addressing phone inquiries, conducting facility tours, and ensuring presence during select weddings and events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews and responds to e-mails using the shared SMBC e-mail inbox
Answers the SMBC phone, reviews and responds to voicemails.
Conducts scheduled and unscheduled tours of the facility
Greets clients/public in a professional manner and assists as needed
Monitors the whereabouts of the public while in the building
Controls access to the office and storage areas
Performs office duties such as filing and photocopying
Calls clients as directed to ensure all necessary paperwork and payments have been submitted before a Wedding or event (such as a liquor license)
Calls clients to get event details, or informs them about cancellations or changes
Takes payments for weddings and events over the phone using the POS machine
Communicates daily with Administrative Support on booking details and inquiries
Keeps the office area clean and organized
Informs the supervisor of any issues or complaints received during the shift
Opens and closes the building based on the schedule and ensures the building is secure
Other reception-like duties as assigned
This position reports directly to the Youth Section Coordinator and works closely with the Admin Support for the St. Mary's Boat Club.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Minimum Grade 12 required or equivalent.
Must enjoy working with the public in a customer service capacity.
Previous customer service experience is an asset.
Previous experience in cash handling is an asset.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of computers and various software (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel).
Knowledge of Legend software is an asset (will be trained once hired).
Able to work effectively as part of a team and/or alone.
Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must be punctual and reliable.
Security Clearance Requirements:
Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note -
Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer's discretion.
Fridays - 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm (4:00 pm if there isn't a booking)
Start Date: August 18, 2025
Some evenings may be required depending on scheduled showings and facility bookings. There will be opportunities to take on additional shifts during the events and weekends when weddings and events are taking place.
SALARY:
$19.85 per hour as per the collective agreement between NSGEU Local 222 and HRM.
