Reporting to the Sr. Director Transportation Commercial, the Sr. Manager, Phosphate Rail is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient rail transportation of Nutrien\'s Phosphate products. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in optimizing our rail operations and ensuring the efficient and timely transportation of goods. This position requires close collaboration with various cross-functional teams, including Sales, Product Management, and Plant Load Out teams, to meet organizational goals and deliver exceptional customer service. This position requires the ability to understand the workings of North American Rail network to effectively manage our relationships with service providers.

What you will do:

  • Primary responsibility for Phosphate rail transportation operations including overall management of all phosphate shipment planning, rail car forecasting and scheduling activities
  • Oversee the scheduling, coordination, and successful execution of all Phosphate rail shipments, including all routing and rating activities
  • Act as primary point of contact for rail carriers to plan and execute phosphate shipments
  • Lead and mentor a team of four rail operations professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and support to drive their professional growth
  • Collaboratively participate in Rail contract negotiation process as a key SME for service and operational requirements
  • Prioritizing rail shipments with consideration for T&D constraints (loadout capabilities, empty car supply & rail service) and in collaboration with Sales & Product Management teams
  • Collaborate with the Product Management team to align rail operations with product availability and market demand, ensuring optimal inventory management
  • Liaise with the Plant Load Out teams to coordinate rail shipments, manage loading schedules, and resolve any operational issues that may arise
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment, promoting teamwork and accountability within the team
  • Manage workload distribution and ensure the team\'s adherence to operational schedules and deadlines
  • Work to optimize rail freight and car costs for all phosphate shipments
  • Assist in long-term contract renewal strategy development
  • Develop and monitor operational metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing appropriate corrective actions. Includes Shipping against plan, Cycle Reporting, Team metrics and Rail carrier performance
What you will bring:
  • University degree required
  • 10+ years related experience with at least 5 years transportation experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Analytical skills with strength in Excel (pivot tables, graphs, charts)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making
  • Strong knowledge of rail transportation systems, regulations, and industry practices will be an asset
  • This role will lead a team of people, requiring strong leadership and management skills

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.
