Job Summary

The Sr. Hardware Design Engineer will be based in Markham, Ontario Canada.

Flex Toronto, located in Markham, Ontario, is a fast-paced design center servicing global customer in the automotive sector. We offer full product development including overall system architecture development, hardware and mechanical design and software development. We have ISO certified environmental and EMC labs as well as full factory test system design and build capabilities.

Acting as trusted design advisors to our customers, we work on multiple medium to large scale projects and collaborate on a global scale with other Flex locations to ensure we provide the best customer experience possible. What a typical day looks like:

Confer with customer, other engineering team and cross functional team members on a frequent basis to ensure all aspects of the design are coming together seamlessly.

Generate, check and approve necessary engineering documentation required for different design phases.

Design products utilizing engineering principles. Apply best practices, lessons learned and innovative design techniques to achieve a reliable product. Meet or exceed customer expectations.

Strive to simplify the design, make it easy to manufacture, mistake proof, attempt to anticipate areas of large variation and attempt to maximize robust design. Design environmentally friendly where possible.

Utilize, (co)generate and update Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, conduct circuit simulation(s) plus use other tools as necessary. Perform worst case analyses.

Generate professional reports and make changes as necessary based on findings. Document all development work that supports program development. Keep documentation in well-organized filing system.

Develop and/or co-develop engineering test fixtures that sufficiently evaluate products and their respective performance.

Support production site activities: support failure analysis, design improvements and quality issues driven from customers and the production site.

The experience we're looking to add to our team:

A minimum bachelor's degree in a related Electrical Engineering discipline

Proven hardware design engineering experience, preferably in automotive industry

Extensive experience in the design and validation of highly complex electrical designs incorporating power, analog and digital domains

Strong knowledge of high speed digital design (infotainment, camera and connectivity)

Familiar with automotive reliability requirements, and component selection for automotive electronics

Understanding of EMI/EMC principles and familiar with automotive EMC requirements and good design practices

Experience with worse case circuit analysis (extreme value, Monte Carlo, stress analysis).

Proficient in the use of electrical design software from Cadence (HDL, CIS, System capture)

Proficient in the use of circuit simulation software such as Pspice, LT-spice

Strong verbal and technical writing skills

Strong analytical thinking skills
