  • Conduct thorough, unbiased and timely field investigations on a task-basis to address the fraud concerns presented by the claims operation as they pertain to claims or policy activity.
  • Employ the most effective investigation techniques for each case. These methods include but are not limited to: In-person interviews, site inspections, signed statements, witness authentication, service provider and employer validation, neighborhood canvasses and expert consultations.
  • Ensure proper procedures are followed to preserve evidence and maintain confidentiality.
  • Clearly communicate findings with all interested parties, produce clear summaries of actions taken and provide recommendations for further investigation or claims processing.
  • Liaise between our SIU department and external investigative units in order to ensure a full investigation is conducted.
  • Stay apprised of the internal/external processes and regulations that may impact claims procedures across all lines.
  • Maintain practices that ensure compliance with company, regulatory, legal and ethical policies and requirements including Sarbanes Oxley. This is done by ensuring thorough comprehension of practices, timely feedback, accurate documentation and participation in audits and reviews.
  • Protect the health and safety of self and others by reporting unsafe conditions, working in compliance with the law and adhering to the safe work practices and procedures established and required by Allstate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a minimum 5 years of SIU experience.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner or comparable designation or courses in investigative, interviewing and negotiating techniques is preferred.
  • Post-secondary degree and/or university/college courses in business law or law enforcement or in a relevant field are preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of investigative practices, methods and enforcement strategies.
  • Working knowledge of relevant insurance regulations and judiciary system.
  • Familiar with the protocols for collecting, handling, and passing on evidence.
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate findings.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Independent, inquisitive and open-minded.
  • Solid time-management skills.
  • Ability to show initiative, good judgment and resourcefulness.
  • Must have a valid G license in Ontario.
