Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team in Barrie, Ontario. In this role, you will oversee the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements and tax returns for private corporations and individuals. With a focus on tax planning, compliance, and staff development, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism in our accounting services.
Responsibilities:

  • Review year-end financial statements and corporate income tax returns for private corporations, as well as personal tax returns during tax season.
  • Develop and evaluate owner-manager compensation strategies, including salary and dividend allocations.
  • Prepare and review tax reorganizations for private corporations, ensuring alignment with tax and accounting disclosures.
  • Support and train entry-level staff by addressing queries, conducting research, and fostering skill development in financial statement preparation and tax compliance.
  • Manage client communications with the appropriate tax authorities, addressing inquiries related to personal and corporate tax filings.
  • Ensure compliance with disclosure requirements for Inter-Vivos and testamentary trusts, and identify tax planning opportunities for these entities.
  • Conduct research and draft responses to client inquiries on tax compliance and planning for private corporations and personal tax matters.
  • Oversee the preparation of documentation and correspondence related to tax planning and reorganizations in collaboration with legal counsel.
  • Proven experience in public practice, specifically in preparing Canadian corporate and personal income tax returns and financial statements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Caseware and Taxprep is considered an asset.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
