About the Role

The Sports Information Supervisor reports to the Associate Director of Marketing and Partnerships within Cougars Athletics and Recreation, and is responsible for all things relating to varsity athletics game day management and hosting including casual staffing, statistics, live streaming, media and officials. Additionally, they coordinate all varsity communications and event requirements for Canada West and U SPORTS.
This position is a full-time role working 35 hours per week.
Responsibilities
--------------------
Staff Supervision and Development (35%)
Identify all positions required to effectively create a varsity game day staffing team, create job descriptions, and hire according to MRU policies.
Develop on-boarding and training procedures for casual staff, as well as annual reviews in accordance with provided departmental framework.
Assist in the nurturing and development of the departmental work culture.
Create the work schedule for all positions, addressing the needs of specific sports on a nightly basis.
Oversee varsity event supervisors and assistant staff, empowering them to lead specific areas on a nightly basis.
Work with Associate Director Marketing and Partnerships to ensure short and long-term plans are developed to ensure staffing needs are met for game day.
Foster and promote a climate of openness, inclusion, and approachability.
Apply best practices and compliance in carrying out policies and procedures relative to human resource management.
Liaise with the Payroll department to ensure all staff comply with the policies in place in order to process wages.
Video Streaming, Communications and Media (35%)
Oversee all communications and media requirements by Canada West and U Sports
Responsible for creating, implementing and assessing a plan that meets Canada West live streaming requirements.
Oversee all webcasting for varsity competition including the lifecycle of equipment (inventory, replacement etc.), managing the staff to do this and liaising with Canada West to ensure the department is meeting and exceeding the requirements.
Collaborate with the MRU Broadcasting department to provide work experience opportunities for students and ensure live stream and video requirements are met.
Conduct communications research and analysis to appropriately direct planning to enhance the Mount Royal University Cougars brand in the media
Develop and execute a communications and media plan, in conjunction with the department Events and Marketing Team to actively promote Cougars athletics stories that will positively highlight Mount Royal locally and nationally.
Oversee the representation of Mount Royal Cougars on the Canada West website accordingly.
Collaborate with the Marketing Strategist on the website management for the department with a focus on the content for athletics.
Support the department social media strategy led by the Digital Media Coordinator.
Develop engaging, relative and compelling press releases and feature stories that positively promote the Cougars eight varsity programs and foster a connected community.
Develop extensive media guides for playoff teams
Collaborate with the Events and Marketing team to plan student-athlete awards celebration events
Collaborate with the Associate Director of Marketing and Partnerships to ensure annual updates to the Wall of Fame
Support sponsorship activation requirements as outlined by the Marketing and Partnerships Associate Director
Varsity Game Day Management (20%)
Host visiting team(s) and officials
Work with the Facilities team to efficiently set-up the competition venue, as well as the admissions areas.
Collaborate with the department Events and Marketing Team to plan special events
Oversee all game day requirements by Canada West and U Sports for the eight varsity programs including game regulations, statistics, score reporting, media, communications and live streaming.
Budget (5%)
Oversee casual staffing budget with support from the Associate Director Marketing and Partnerships
Coordinate the department long term (including life cycle replacement plans) plan for video streaming equipment.
Departmental, Divisional and Institutional Service and Planning (5%)
Serve on committees and university initiatives such as Cougar Night, Crowchild Classic, and U SPORTS National Championships.
Promote a shared vision that drives departmental, divisional, and institutional short-term and long-term planning and the ongoing organizational work.
Represent MRU on appropriate league committees, providing insight and expertise for topics related to Sports Information.
Act as a liaison between MRU and Canada West/U SPORTS regarding future direction of communication, webcasting, and hosting expectations.
Support the development of innovative collaborative partnerships to advance the departmental, divisional and institutional strategic reach.
Qualifications
------------------
Bachelor's Degree in sport management, marketing, events, or related field.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least three (3) years of supervisory experience of employees and volunteers.
Ability to establish effective working relationships and work as a member of the team.
Ability to explain the relevance of sport and or recreation's reputational importance through events and activities.
Ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekends as needed.
Knowledge of web design and operations.
Salary:
$70,841 - $89,646 per annum
