The Basketball Performance Trainer is responsible for delivering gym-based strength and conditioning programs for basketball athletes through both
group training sessions
and
individual 1-on-1 coaching
. This role focuses exclusively on physical performance development--strength, speed, agility, mobility, vertical jump, and injury prevention--
with no on-court skill instruction
.
Key Responsibilities :
Program Design & Performance Training
Develop and implement structured strength and conditioning programs tailored to basketball athletes in both group and individual settings.
Create progressive training plans targeting strength, power, acceleration/deceleration, change of direction, vertical jump, and conditioning.
Conduct baseline and ongoing performance assessments for groups and individuals.
Group Training
Lead engaging, high-energy group sessions with strong emphasis on movement quality and safe technique.
Manage group flow, station organization, and proper training progressions.
Modify exercises as needed to accommodate different ability levels within the group.
1-on-1 Training
Provide individualized coaching to meet specific athlete needs and goals.
Build personalized training progressions based on performance assessments and movement analysis.
Track individual athlete progress and communicate updates regularly.
Safety & Technique
Ensure athletes perform all exercises with proper form and controlled progression.
Promote warm-up, cool-down, mobility, and recovery routines to reduce injury risk.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized training environment.
Athlete Support & Education
Educate athletes on the fundamentals of strength training, movement patterns, recovery, and injury prevention.
Communicate clearly with athletes (and parents when applicable) to provide feedback and support.
Foster a positive, motivating, and professional training culture.
Collaboration
Coordinate with sport coaches, athletic trainers, and medical professionals when needed.
Adjust training plans based on season, competition schedule, or injury considerations.
Qualifications
Required:
Minimum 3 years of experience
in strength and conditioning or athletic performance training, preferably with basketball athletes.
Strong understanding of strength, conditioning, movement mechanics, and basketball-specific physical demands.
Ability to coach effectively in both group and 1-on-1 environments.
CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or related field.
Industry-recognized certification (CSCS, NASM-PES, ISSA-SSC, ACE-CPT, etc.).
Previous experience in a sports performance facility or high-performance training environment.
