As an integrated member of our Central Zone Spiritual Care team, you support the spiritual and emotional health of patients and families across diverse beliefs, cultural perspectives, and practices. Reflecting a holistic, compassionate methodology to care, the Spiritual Health Practitioner advances an evidence based spiritual health care approach. The successful candidate will rely on accomplished interpersonal communication, prioritization, and self-awareness skills to liaise with faith leaders, healthcare professionals, coordinate site events and be responsive to the changing needs of a caseload. Additionally, your responsibilities will involve supporting patients and families in illness adjustment, chronic disease care, and end-of-life care. Description:

The Spiritual Health Practitioner is accountable for providing leadership in the profession for the assigned site(s); consultation, expertise, and direct service delivery in all matters related to spiritual health care in the context of health and care delivered. The Spiritual Health Practitioner responds to spiritual health needs identified by patients, families, and staff through a process of spiritual assessment and care. Reflecting a holistic, compassionate approach to care, the Spiritual Health Practitioner advances an evidence-based spiritual health care approach inclusive of patients/families, staff, physicians, and volunteers which is integrated into inter-professional collaborative team practice. Spiritual Care Professional Practice is to be delivered in alignment with and advancement of AHS provincial professional practice standards, frameworks, and guidelines. Given the variety of spiritual, religious, cultural, and philosophical beliefs that co-exist within site(s), the Spiritual Health Practitioner encourages respect for individual patient beliefs within the health care team, and also facilitates and supports the involvement of religious community visitors.

Required Qualifications:

Masters in Theology and/or Spirituality/Religion or a clinically related field with confirmation of educational equivalency obtained from the Academic Assessment Committee of the national professional association, Canadian Association for Spiritual Care/Association canadienne de soins spirituels, (CASC/ACSS). 2nd Advanced Level, Clinical Psycho-Spiritual Education (CPE) with commitment toward certification as a spiritual care practitioner, (CASC) within three years. Current Membership or Associate Membership of CASC/ACSS. Enhanced professional leadership skills to foster interdisciplinary capacity for spiritual screening, history taking, and spiritual care clinical intervention and support. Demonstrated ability to collaborate respectfully with various religious/spiritual and cultural groups.
Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience facilitating education in spiritually informed care. Educational and/or other qualifications required to perform in clinical practice area(s). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to collaborate respectfully and work effectively with various spiritual, religious, cultural groups and all levels of staff. Ability to foster interdisciplinary capacity for spiritual screening. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Demonstrated skills in reflective and collaborative practice, active listening, negotiation, advocacy, and conflict resolution. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and ability to establish external partnerships. Knowledge of and skills to address the needs of people encountering crisis, disability, loss, bereavement and end of life care.
Preferred Qualifications:

CASC Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner; certification equivalency; or eligibility for certification, with two years of relevant spiritual health care experience. Experience educating and empowering staff and religious community members to share in the work of spiritual care. Professional computer and technology skills to facilitate interdisciplinary charting and communication. Proactive in developing and implementing strategies to resolve issues and problems and creating safe space.
