Your Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity for a Speech Language Pathologist interested in working with adults living in the community, who have complex rehabilitation needs. The Community Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Service (CRIS) program located at the Misericordia Hospital (primary site), Kaye Edmonton Clinic, and the Strathcona County Community Hospital is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist II (SLP II) to provide speech language therapy, patient assessment and treatment to adults living in the community with complex and neurological conditions. This position provides the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary team, including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreation Therapy & Social Work and a variety of other disciplines. The successful candidate will be required to maintain adequate clinical records, provide rehabilitation consultation to other staff and to mentor and supervise Speech Language Pathology students and Therapy Assistants. The ability to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and community based medical and Allied Health clinicians to prove effective patient care and appropriate discharge planning is an essential part of this role.
Description:
As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years recent experience working with neurological patients and patients with complex needs. Must possess strong assessment, communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated problem-solving planning and organization skills. Must demonstrate a strong patient/family-centered approach to care. Working knowledge of computer applications including word processing, email and internet access, Zoom, and Teams. Ability to be self-directed and to effectively work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Strong assessment, critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). The SLP II may be required to maintain a standing position and perform up to a medium level of work (20-50 lbs. handled occasionally) including bending and/or rotation related to client transfers or therapeutic intervention. The SLP II may sit for long periods of time on small chairs/stools or on the floor depending on the site. Required to bend, pull, lift, perform variable movements and position changes (may be required to assume awkward positions). Initiative and ability to work independently in clinical and virtual settings. Experience working in Connect Care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in an outpatient clinic setting. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams. Must possess a sound understanding of the community and the social determinants of health.
