The opportunity:
The Speech Language Pathologist will provide comprehensive diagnostic and intervention services to clients with communication disorders in accordance with Canadian Council of Health Facilities Accreditation standards and the Code of Ethics and Rules of the Canadian Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
Provides diagnostic and intervention services to children and adults in Rankin Inlet, as well as the other six hamlets of the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut, through outreach travel clinics. The incumbent wilt function as an integral part of the Rehabilitation team and will work closely with families, staff in health centres, schools and other hospital departments to provide a holistic service to referred clients. The incumbent will effectively manage their own caseload and participate as a member of several teams.
The Speech Language Pathologist is part of the community health care team, striving to provide accessible and culturally relevant services to clients of all ages in a variety of settings. Full-time Speech Language Pathologist position is available.
The Speech Language Pathologist will be based in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, living and working full-time (37.5 hours/week). They travel regularly to surrounding communities to provide community-based services, as well as telerehabilitation services between visits from Rankin Inlet.
The qualifications and experience we're looking for:
A master's degree in Speech Language Pathology is preferred.
Must have current registration to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist with good standing in any one province or territory.
Must have, or be eligible for, certification with the Speech-Language and Audiologists Canada (SAC).
Must carry liability Insurance.
Experience with preschool and school age children is required.
General clinical experience of two or more years is preferred.
Proficiency in the Inuktitut language is an asset.
Experience writing reports and drafting own correspondence and reports is preferred.
Experience in program development is preferred.
Cross cultural awareness and experience preferred.
Experience with electronic health records is preferred.
Must have current child abuse registry and criminal record check.
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Effective oral and written communication, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills required.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team are essential.
An understanding of the health care system and health practices is required
Must have a well-developed understanding of professional responsibility and confidentiality
Must be able to work with limited supervision and therefore must be self-directed and able to prioritize own work.
Must be creative and adaptable in working situations which may vary greatly in their quality and availability of resources.
Demonstrated computer literacy is required.
A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
