Your Opportunity:The Royal Alexandra Hospital is a large teaching hospital. You will report to the Assistant Manager of Allied Health and will be part of a strong interdisciplinary team that provides assessment and intervention to patients in a fast-paced acute care environment. You will be an integral member of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team. You will be responsible for the management of inpatients with swallowing and communication difficulties in a challenging and exciting environment. You will have the opportunity to influence practice through the provision of education and consultation services to the interdisciplinary team and supervision of students and Therapy Assistants. You will be responsible to complete both bedside and instrumental assessments as well as various interventions related to swallowing disorders. The RAH Rehabilitation Department strives to provide excellence in patient centered care through ongoing education, support and implementation evidence based and best practice guidelines. The Rehabilitation Services Department provides excellent learning opportunities through professional practice lead events as well supporting ongoing professional growth and quality improvement initiatives. We encourage healthy lifestyles by providing secure bike storage, a Light Rail Transit Station, a Fitness Centre and other wellness activities.Description:As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.

Required Qualifications:Master\'s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA). Additional Required Qualifications:Heart and Stroke CPR (BCLS-HCP) certification is required. Greater than 6 months experience with dysphagia in an adult acute care population is required. Experience completing Videofluoroscopic swallowing studies independently is required. Demonstration of strong clinical reasoning is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated problem-solving, planning and organizational skills are essential. Experience working successfully as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team is required. Must be able to work independently and within a team environment. Must have the ability to assist with patient transfers and repositioning. Must be able to tolerate wearing a lead vest for up to 30 minutes. Knowledge and ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook). Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with the marginalized population with a good understanding of inner-city clients and resources is preferred.
