The Speciality Group Facilitator connects newcomers with Canadians, local supports, networks and culture, and provides opportunities for community connections, labour-market integration and informal practice of language skills.

What you will do...

Duties/Responsibilities

Support a newcomer's overall settlement progress. Increase a newcomer's understanding of Canadian society Provide opportunities for knowledge transfer, advice on cross cultural issues and the development of social/labour related networks/connections. Connect vulnerable groups (individual and group) with local support networks and mainstream organizations such as newcomer seniors to seniors' networks, parents with early childhood development networks Create opportunities to support language learning through informal coaching and practice such as Conversation Circles. Coordinate group/community activities/neighbourhood events. Assist with job search/volunteer work Establish and maintain programs and initiatives in collaboration with other departments and/or community partners that address the social, emotional, psychological and educational needs of newcomers in the community. Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required. Assume other duties as assigned

What you will bring...



Completion of Community College Diploma 1-2 years of related experience Experience working as a facilitator Volunteer management experience Project management experience Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Access Database Access to transportation Acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check

Excellent written, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills Ability to multitask Culturally sensitive and sensitive to needs of all age groups

Work Environment

Typical office working environment The position requires sitting in one work area much of the time. The position requires normal levels of seeing and hearing and may require increased use of senses on a periodic basis (e.g. concentration) but not continuously or for long periods of time. The position requires the normal dexterity required to do either manual or computerized record keeping. The environment is generally comfortable with exposure to normal levels of elements such as dust with minor fluctuations in heating/ventilating. Some exposure to disagreeable conditions. Minimal risk of injury to worker.

Travel requirements

- This is a part time role that will require travel for site visits and meetings.
This role requires regular travel across the region, between the Waterloo Region and Stratford-Perth County which may not always be easily accessible through public transit. The employee must be able to arrange their own transportation to these sites. A valid G driver's license and full time vehicle access are strongly recommended.
