Business Overview:
Bach-Simpson has provided custom electronic systems since 1946, and is a leading supplier of Event Data Recorders and other custom control systems for the railway market. Our involvement in FRA/IEEE standards groups led to the first IEEE 1482.1 compliant Crash Hardened Event Recorder. Bach-Simpson also provides Automated Bench Test Equipment, providing electromechanical test sets for various railway onboard systems for up to a Level 3 "component" troubleshooting. The Wabtec Railway Electronics group has provided over 40,000 Event Recorders world-wide.
Job Overview:
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering and Products, this position is responsible for providing on a project specific basis, design, commissioning, and technical support of Transit and Locomotive electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems of varying size and complexity. Specifically, the Mechanical Engineering will be working on but not limited to the following.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform all aspects of technical work.
  • Read and interpret PCB, electrical and mechanical schematics/drawings.
  • Design engineering drawings and create drawings in both 2 and 3-dimensional form for fabrication.
  • Create accurate drawings, BOMs, Test Instructions, Assembly Instructions, and Wiring Instructions.
  • Create detailed design documentation and estimate time to complete task.
  • Review drawings, BOMs, Test Instructions, Assembly Instructions, and Wiring Instructions for accuracy.
  • Create, maintain, and update part numbers, parts, BOMs, assemblies and drawings per engineering direction and update the MRP system accordingly.
  • Aid in the selection of materials for the products and manufacturing, assembly and testing of the product.
  • Provides support to business development teams in preparation and development of various proposal materials to meet tight timelines.
  • Support the Engineering Team in ensuring the systems meet all associated design criteria and specifications per the proposal and the contract.
  • Participate in project scheduling activities.
  • Participate in process improvements and implementations.
  • Support the expansion of CMMI processes into Engineering.
  • Continue to improve current processes to deliver more efficiently and effectively for the Projects.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors of Engineering, with certificate or qualification in SolidWorks certification.
  • Must have 2-4 years of engineering experience with AutoCAD 2024+, SolidWorks 2020+, 3D modeling and 2D drafting, EPDM preferred.
  • Knowledge of Pneumatic, Hydraulic and HVAC systems is a plus.
  • Able to Travel to customer site for design review meetings (10-25%).

  • Ability to effectively interact with peers, internal stakeholders, vendors and service providers.
  • Effective two-way communication skills, including verbal as well as written forms.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Attention to detail, striving for 100% accuracy in finished documentation
  • Adaptable to change, learns quickly and independent.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and tasks, set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions and work assignments.
  • Experienced with document revision control and document and technical writing.
  • Able to read, understand and apply procedures.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Experience in Manufacturing, Machining and Assembly in an industrial/manufacturing environment, familiarity with electrical assembly, soldering.
  • Out of the box thinking on how to improve delivery timelines.
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada is required.
  • Must be willing to travel to customer site as required 25% or more.

The salary rate for this role is currently $61500-81500 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
