Provides independent, objective review and adjudication of credit applications and transactions for an assigned portfolio, as applicable, within credit limits or makes credit recommendations and escalates. Delivers exceptional client service by truly understanding business banking credit to conduct the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s lending practices (i.e. credit applications) within the boundaries of the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s risk appetite, tolerances, and Analytical Risk Monitoring (ARM) platform. Supports credit adjudication operations and change initiatives. Provides coaching and supports teams and channels from which applications and transactions originate. Proactively identifies opportunities to provide value-added financial solutions that meet client needs and expand the loan portfolio.

  • Provides advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of solutions.
  • Employs systems (e.g. customized exception reports, tracking reports etc.) to manage information.
  • Provides technical expertise to other team members, acting as a go-to person for the team.
  • Supports the manager by coordinating and managing workflow and exception requests; escalates any concerns.
  • Makes credit decisions / recommendations in accordance with sound credit-granting principles and in compliance with Corporate Policies and Standards, Level 3 Documents (e.g. CLM, Financing Guidelines) and procedures.
  • Reviews and communicates credit transaction decisions with rationales that can be understood and explained to customers.
  • Identifies and advises on transaction decision terms, conditions, and collateral requirements and opportunities for cross-selling or alternative solutions that meet client needs.
  • Reviews and confirms whether the Customer Signal Engine (CSE) within the Analytical Risk Monitoring (ARM) platform is correct for each credit application and associated borrower.
  • Reviews credit applications to ensure that an appropriate Probability of Default (PD) is assigned to the borrower.
  • Keeps abreast of economic and market developments within the portfolio to inform credit risk policies and decision making.
  • Adheres to the risk rating process to ensure application integrity and compliance with policies and guidelines in force at the time of submission (e.g. manuals for Risk Rating).
  • Identifies and actions exceptions and elevates sign-offs in compliance with established policies and standards.
  • Coaches and advises customer-facing employees on credit risk to increase awareness of transaction risks, Policies, Standards, Level 3 Documents and knowledge of credit structuring.
  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Gathers and formats data into regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards.
  • Monitors and tracks performance and addresses any issues.
  • Provides input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.
  • Executes work to deliver timely, accurate, and efficient service.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed. Qualifications:
  • Typically between 4 - 6 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in Business or a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Credit Qualifications and associated credit knowledge and skills according to the established qualification standards.
  • Working knowledge of banking products and services.
  • Working knowledge of industry trends and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of credit portfolio management Policies, Standards, Level 3 Documents and procedures.
  • Effective communications and relationship management skills.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities with effective planning and organizing skills.
  • Sound judgement, logic, and reasoning.
  • Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.
