Reporting to the Director, Clinical Programs, Ontario Health West, the Specialist is responsible for supporting the planning, development and implementation of initiatives and efforts within the clinical programs portfolio that support clinical quality improvement and clinical transformation, including COVID-19 Clinical Services Recovery.

This position will work closely with the Director(s) and the Leads in the clinical portfolio and with inter-departmental teams

Here is what you will be doing:

Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships


  • Develop and maintain internal OH relationships and West Region team relationships to advance regional clinical programs initiatives

  • Provides advice and support, as required, to West Region planning staff, health service providers, clinical leadership and other partners on initiatives and opportunities that will advance strategic health system goals

  • Participates in department and stakeholder meetings, working groups, committees, advisory groups, council and/or other relevant meetings which may have an impact on the project /corporate initiatives

  • Acts as the key representative/support various clinical program committees, other project related initiatives, as required to advance team goals

  • Initiates and develops effective working relationships with external stakeholders to keep up to date on current/emerging developments, trends, quality improvement initiatives related to clinical programs

  • Works closely and collaborates with internal strategy, OHT planning and performance management teams to ensure alignment across the organization, and to integrate and align efforts in support of shared goals


Data Analysis and Project Management

  • Work closely with decision support and analytics teams to understand datasets and analyze clinical and system-level data to help identify trends and clinical improvement opportunities

  • Ensures appropriate mechanisms are in place for the optimal delivery of initiatives, including best practices guidelines and tools for the effective management and execution of projects

  • Works collaboratively with project support resources from both within and outside of the organization to align planning processes

  • Relies on and uses full understanding/knowledge of project implementation characteristics to facilitate the effective management/implementation of large scale projects and the communication process to relevant stakeholders are kept in the loop

  • Manage/support all aspects of the project life-cycle ensuring delivery on-time


Issues and stakeholder management

  • Conduct proactive issues management by anticipating and mitigating issues, facilitating discussions among partners/stakeholders

  • Use excellent problem recognition and problem solving abilities to handle complex problems and inform management of potential issues and associated solutions

  • Proactively identify partnership opportunities and explore partnership opportunities presented by leadership and upon outreach from partners to advance OH West Clinical Programs initiatives/projects


Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education & Experience

  • University degree in Social Sciences, Health Care, Business Administration or related field; a Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree is an asset (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • 3 plus years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a health care environment required \xe2\x80\x93 working on projects, business development, health system planning, stakeholder engagement/facilitation, client services or similar role

  • Strong understanding of health care system and continuum of care including clinical processes with ability to use clinical data for improvement required

  • Exceptional project management experience leading/supporting multiple projects concurrently, with a proven ability to move complex projects from start to finish through planning, development, implementation required

  • Excellent computer skills required (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, SharePoint)

  • Proven ability to build, enhance and maintain strategic relationships with clinicians, local and provincial governments, health service providers and other key stakeholders to work in a variety of team situations

  • Capacity to think strategically and maintain a broad systems view, with the ability to translate broad goals into detailed strategic and operational plans

  • Strong ability to gather, critically analyze and synthesize data and information from multiple sources to inform health planning and to guide evidence based decision making

  • Ability to effectively analyze complex problems, interpret operational/clinical needs and develop integrated and creative solutions

  • Ability to utilize a high level of initiative and self-direction

  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively as a team player with a variety of staff/stakeholders to undertake detailed analysis and support project implementation

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate information/ideas in reports, presentations, briefing notes, and environmental scans

  • Strong negotiation and facilitation skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to thrive in an environment of ambiguity and pressure


Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time

Paygrade and Zone: 5A

Location: Ontario West Region (e.g., Hamilton); currently hybrid; subject to change. All applicants must be a resident of Ontario to be considered for roles at Ontario Health.
