Special Events Internship (paid)

Job Description

The Smilezone Foundation is currently seeking a Special Events Intern for November 2025-April 2026. This is a hybrid work-from-home and in office position, based out of our Oakville location. This position is responsible for assisting the Administrative and Events Assistant with the organization and oversight of the Foundations Special Events (including Fundraising and Donor events), coordinating the Foundation's volunteer program, and assisting with ongoing development opportunities.

Responsibilities:



- Assist in the coordination of the Foundations Special Events including the Hockey Helping Kids Tournament

- Provide support for the Toronto Rock Lacrosse 50/50 Partnership, including assisting with the planning and launch of a new lottery license. The intern will help recruit volunteers for 50/50 games and is required to commute to TD Coliseum in Hamilton to attend the majority of Friday or Saturday games (schedule to be released later this year).

- Take part in the development of a new fundraising event as required, including a third party fundraising event for fall/winter

- Support the planning, coordination and execution of Smilezone donor events, including: Smilezone Grand Opening Events

- Recruit, train and evaluate volunteers for Smilezone special events, including major special event fundraisers, 50/50 ticketing programs, and other community events as needed

- Administratively support and assist with coordination of various subcommittees, supporting the Foundation's special events

- Support the coordination of Smilezone's marketing initiatives, including social media, quarterly newsletters and website maintenance

- Liason with community networks, including Smilezone hospital/health centre partners, business partners, volunteer networks, community foundations, etc. As required - Assist with development of new opportunities to build community awareness (I.e., community outreach, local networking or community event opportunities, etc.) when possible

- Provide ongoing administrative support to support the Foundation's operations as needed

- Other projects/duties as assigned

Qualifications:



- Applicants must be enrolled in a degree/diploma program and receive course credit upon completion of this internship

- Enrollment in an Event Management or Sport Management course is preferred - Ability to develop and maintain new and existing relationships with volunteers, staff and corporate partners through oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

- Must be highly motivated and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment on various tasks simultaneously

- Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills

- Experience working in a group setting and delivering presentations

- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MC Office applications and digital communications (such as social media platforms, Canva, web content management, etc)

- Must be able to commit to at least 10 hours per week

- Must be 18 years of age or older

Job Types: Fixed term contract, Internship / Co-op
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Oakville, ON L6J 4A8: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
