Passionate about bringing unique events and festivals to life? Have the know-how to put the pieces together to create something memorable? Then our auxiliary Special Events Assistant position might be for you! You're a highly organized person with incredible time management skills. You know where things need to be, how they need to be done, and by whom. You're also a fantastic communicator who can easily engage with various internal and external contacts, and lead a team of junior staff. You'll be supporting the City's Special Events Team to develop, plan, and coordinate a wide variety of special events and festivals. You'll have a say in site design, connecting with vendors and performers, determining layout and setup, sourcing event participants and supplies, preparing reports and administrative files. You will also perform other related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 and related work experience in supporting events and/or festivals. A Cultural and Arts related background, especially event planning, stage management or project management, and strong clerical experience are considered assets in this role. Your application should outline your experience with leading staff or volunteers, booking and coordinating artist/performer, as well as providing on-site event support. Strong writing skills including professional emails and daily event reports are recommended for the position. Your application should highlight your experiences working with community organizations as well as sourcing resources for events and festivals. A Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required. An Occupational First Aid Level 1 is an asset. We are currently hiring for three Special Events Assistants on an as-needed basis year-round. Availability on the weekends during July and August as well as Statutory holidays is a requirement for these positions. Please note that a Police Information Check is required for this position.
Pay Rate: $29.48 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
Location: Deer Lake 2, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts
Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts. Availability on the weekends during July and August as well as Statutory holidays is a requirement for this position. Typical shifts are 6 hours in length, starting as early as 8:00 AM and ending as late as 11:00 PM Monday to Sunday.
