About the role:




The SPD Technician is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage and distribution of medical-surgical supplies and equipment, with particular emphasis on specialty instrumentation utilized in OR procedures.
What you'll be doing:


Preparing and delivering clean and sterilized instruments and equipment necessary for medical examinations, surgeries, medical carts and clinical procedures Sterilizing, wrapping, organizing and preparing medical equipment and surgical instruments into instrument trays for use during clinical procedures Laying out surgical gloves and gowns before each medical procedure Collecting and manually cleaning used and contaminated medical equipment, supplies and instruments for sorting and decontamination Preparing and packing decontaminated medical tools and supplies for sterilization Operating and monitoring sterilization equipment Examining supplies meticulously to ensure their cleanliness Checking and reporting any problems or issues with the sterilization equipment to surgeons or supervisors and requesting replacements Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, equipment maintenance, sterilized items and supplies Reordering medical and surgical supplies, controlling the inventory and checking expiration dates of products Removing medical waste and disposing of them appropriately
What you bring:


Medical Device Reprocessing College Certificate required Minimum of 112.5 hours (3 weeks) clinical experience required Previous experience as a Technician an asset, as well as some knowledge of surgical instrumentation, medical - surgical supplies and equipment. Must be well organized in order to complete daily workload and maintain optimal turnaround times for reusable equipment. Work is performed independently within the confines of predetermined procedures and practices. The Technician must be capable of working co-operatively within a team to achieve the demands of the department. Working knowledge of basic aseptic techniques and principles of Infection Control Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Innovative and willing to learn Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal Demonstrated problem assessment skills Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork Demonstrated individual leadership skills Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for patients and families as well as other members of the healthcare team within a challenging and exciting health care environment. This is an evening shift - Monday - Friday 15:00 - 23:00
