Take A Hike Market is looking for a Sous Chef (Made To Order)Who we are
Take a Hike Market (TAHM) is Canada's newest culinary playground, at home in the Rocky Mountains of Canmore Alberta. In this position, you will follow and provide support to our Executive Chef and Sr. Sous Chef by adhering to their requirements and guidelines. You will also act as lead of our Made To Order department. Our ideal candidate is a creative professional who is willing to participate in creating delicious menus and meal designs while energetically engaging with our Team to empower confidence and comradery in the workplace.Your duties will include development and supervision of employees, responding to customer issues, and collaboration with our Culinary Team in regard to new menu options. You should have excellent communication skills with in-depth knowledge of several cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and processes as well as represent strong leadership skills.You will be responsible for

  • Overseeing the Made To Order department.
  • Contributing to the development of new menu options based on seasonal changes and customer demand.
  • Assisting with the preparation and planning of meal designs.
  • Ensuring that kitchen activities operate in a timely manner.
  • Resolving customer problems and concerns personally.
  • Monitoring and recording inventory, and if necessary, ordering new ingredients and supplies.
  • Providing support to junior kitchen employees with various tasks including line cooking, food preparation, and dish plating.
  • Contributing to the recruitment and training of new kitchen employees to meet TAHM standards.
  • Assisting in the creation of schedules for kitchen employees and evaluating their performance behaviours.
  • Adhering to and implementing sanitation regulations and safety regulations.
  • Managing the kitchen team in collaboration with or in the absence of the Executive Chef and Sr. Sous Chef.
  • Effectively controlling the food production to allow for maximum quality and yield.
  • Maintain current records with respect to any reports of kitchen accidents or violations of food safety codes and procedures.
  • Maintain current records with respect to any reports of damaged or outdated ingredients or supplies.
  • Willingly engaging in any task that is required or asked of you. Being a Team member at TAHM comes with a "can do" attitude, being present and willing to support our Team in any situation is a paramount quality for all our employees.
What we need from you
  • A long-term commitment to grow and develop with TAHM.
  • A willingness to participate in a full-time, permanent contract as part of a dynamic and collaborative Team.
  • Ability to work within a flexible work arrangement including early mornings, evenings and/or weekends, stand or walk for 8-hour shifts and lift at least 50 pounds.
  • A willingness to comply with all food safety procedures.
  • Be a resident of the Bow Valley or have to ability to relocate with some ease. A reliable commute or relocation plan will need to be confirmed before starting work.
What skills & experience you'll bring to us
  • Bachelor's degree in culinary science or relevant field.
  • A minimum of 1 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and best practices.
  • Good understanding of MS Office and other related programs.
  • Safe Food Handling Certified.
  • Teamwork-oriented with outstanding leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
