Position Title: Solutions Architect

Team and Location: IT \xe2\x80\x93 Calgary, AB

Starting Minimum Salary from: $ 79,600/year

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mid-Level Solutions Architect to join our multi-national company, focusing on convenience retailing and downstream operations. As a Mid-Level Solutions Architect, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing technology solutions that enhance the efficiency of our retail convenience and downstream processes. This is an excellent opportunity for an architect with experience in AWS cloud services, UML, architecture diagrams, extending local networks to the cloud, familiarity with Lucidchart, and a key soft skill of championing the Solution Architect role as a cornerstone to solution building and delivery. You will contribute significantly to championing new requirements within our solution portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

Solution Design and Architecture

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, and technology teams to define and develop effective solution architectures that address specific challenges in convenience retail and downstream sectors.
  • Translate business requirements into well-structured solution designs, considering scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to the design of core solutions for areas such as refinery operations, supply chain optimization, logistics, terminal management, and distribution.
Full Solution Portfolio Understanding
  • Gain a deep understanding of the entire solution portfolio within the midstream and downstream operations, ensuring you are well-versed in the products and services offered.
  • Advocate for a comprehensive approach by considering how new requirements and enhancements fit within the broader solution ecosystem.
Championing New Requirements
  • Play an active role in identifying gaps in the existing solution portfolio and collaborating with cross-functional teams to champion new requirements that address evolving business needs.
  • Contribute to shaping the future direction of the solution portfolio by bringing forward innovative ideas and concepts.
Data Integration and Management
  • Support the development of data integration strategies, facilitating seamless data flow and interoperability across various systems and applications within midstream and downstream operations.
  • Assist in designing data management frameworks to ensure efficient data collection, storage, analysis, and reporting, supporting informed decision-making processes.
  • Contribute to maintaining data quality and security through data governance practices.
Solution Architect Advocacy
  • Demonstrate a key soft skill by championing the Solution Architect role as a cornerstone to solution building and delivery, advocating its importance and strategic significance to stakeholders.
Solution Enhancement
  • Support the evaluation of emerging technologies and trends relevant to midstream and downstream operations. Contribute ideas for enhancing business processes and operational efficiency through innovative solutions.
Security and Compliance
  • Assist in assessing security risks and compliance requirements related to solution designs, ensuring that data and systems are adequately protected in alignment with industry standards.
UML and Architecture Diagrams
  • Utilize your expertise in UML and architecture diagrams to visually communicate and document solution designs effectively, enhancing the clarity and alignment of architectural concepts.
Extending Local Networks to the Cloud
  • Leverage your strong knowledge of extending local networks to the cloud, enabling seamless integration of on-premises and cloud-based systems within midstream and downstream operations.
Technical Collaboration
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, developers, and engineers to contribute to the overall architectural vision and ensure that solutions align with best practices and standards.
Stakeholder Interaction
  • Engage with key stakeholders, contributing to discussions with business executives, IT leadership, and external partners to understand business needs and communicate architectural concepts effectively.
Project Involvement
  • Participate in project lifecycle activities, including design, implementation, testing, and deployment, ensuring the successful delivery of technology solutions that meet project objectives within midstream and downstream operations.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. An equivalent qualification is also acceptable.
  • Experience (typically 4-7 years) in solution design, architecture, or a relevant technical role.
  • Familiarity with solution architecture concepts, software design patterns, and principles.
  • Basic understanding of data integration, data management, and security considerations within a technical landscape.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Eagerness to learn, adapt, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to understand the full solution portfolio and champion new requirements within the product set.
  • Prior experience in using AWS cloud services and familiarity with the products offered.
  • Experience with UML and architecture diagrams.
  • Strong knowledge of extending local networks to the cloud.
  • Familiarity with Lucidchart for diagramming and documentation.
  • Key soft skill of championing the Solution Architect role as a cornerstone to solution building and delivery.
