First Nations Technical Services Advisory Group Inc. (TSAG) is a not-for-profit provider of quality technical service and training for First Nations in Alberta. TSAG's purpose is to assist First Nations in gaining the tools and knowledge they need to achieve and maintain high standards in technology and services within the community. This is a permanent, full time position and will be located in Edmonton, Alberta.
Solid Waste Community Coordinator
TSAG is seeking a a passionate and community-driven Solid Waste Community Coordinator to work collaboratively with Alberta First Nation communities. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting community Solid Waste Departments by developing and implementing community-focused tools, resources, and engagement initiatives.
This position is ideal for someone who values environmental stewardship, community development, and building relationships that promote sustainable waste management practices.
The position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for assisting with delivery Solid Waste programming in the Alberta First Nations to ensure support is provided for existing programs already in place.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implemen
t community-based tools and resources to support First Nation Solid Waste Departments.
Organize and lead
community awareness campaigns
on solid waste management and environmental sustainability.
Coordinate and promote
community clean-up events
, including:
+ Community-wide clean-ups
+ School and youth engagement clean-ups
+ Construction site clean-ups Work closely with Solid Waste Technicians to
raise their profile and visibility
within their communities.
Support ongoing
education and outreach initiatives
that highlight the importance of proper waste management and environmental care.
Assist in planning and delivering training sessions, workshops, and community meetings related to solid waste management.
Track and report progress on community engagement and awareness goals to the COO.
Qualifications and Skills
Post-secondary
degree or diploma in Environmental Engineering
, Environmental Science, or a related field is an asset.
Extensive experience in Solid Waste Management
or community environmental programs will also be considered.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with
First Nation communities
in a culturally respectful and inclusive manner.
Strong
communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
.
Ability to manage multiple projects and engage diverse community members effectively.
Clean, valid Class 5 driver's license including reliable transportation and willingness to travel regularly to Alberta First Nation communities.
Excellent written and verbal communication with diverse stakeholders including the ability to effectively chair meetings and facilitate discussions
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Positive attitude and a desire for continuous improvement for self and the program and organization overall
Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy, reliability, and willingness to take initiative
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) as well as internet research skills.
Experience working with First Nations and Indigenous Peoples will be considered as an asset
