Your opportunity:

Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) is a non-profit organization that delivers an objectives-based program for massively scalable, seed-stage, science- and technology-based companies. Its mission is to accelerate the commercialization of science for the betterment of humankind. CDL is a global program with sites at Oxford, Paris, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Halifax, Atlanta, Seattle, Wisconsin, Estonia, and Berlin. The program\xe2\x80\x99s objective-setting process enhances the performance of technical founders who learn from the insights of experienced entrepreneurs, increasing their probability of success. Each stream within each CDL site hosts a series of 4 annual objective-setting sessions that are the primary mechanisms by which the program is delivered. CDL sessions are complex, full-day events that may be hosted virtually or in person and that bring together participating start-ups, mentors, partners, and business students. At the end of each annual program cycle, CDL hosts a two-day event called Super Session that brings together graduating start-ups as well as mentors, partners, and students from across the network.

As the Software Engineer, Research & Development at CDL-Global, you will work collaboratively with the CDL Research & Development team to develop and enhance the CDL technology stack to achieve network-wide strategic, research and operational objectives. Key focus areas will be the development of software products, statistical models, database infrastructure and integrations, as well as the assessment, automation and documentation of operational processes.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Leading and planning IT projects, developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
  • Analyzing, recommending, and designing highly complex software architecture
  • Writing complex technical code
  • Evaluating programming code to ensure it has validity, compatibility, and that it meets appropriate standards
  • Commenting on programming code for the purposes of standardization and consistency
  • Developing technical application implementation plans
  • Analyzing, recommending and designing technical solutions for highly complex IT problems
  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor\'s Degree in a technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Sciences); or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years recent and related experience in software development, statistical model development and data science
  • Advanced to expert understanding of Python, especially numerical computation and data pipeline design
  • Proficiency in HTML, XML, SQL, and a pure object-oriented, statically typed language like Java
  • Working knowledge of relational database systems (e.g. MSSQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and application-to-database connection tools and methods
  • Experience integrating Salesforce with other applications via real-time, batch, sync/async
  • Experience with third-party web services and other enterprise integrating technologies (e.g. AWS/Jira/GitHub)
  • Robust business analysis and functional expertise, including requirements gathering, creating/deploying solutions to end-users
  • Demonstrated experience with technical software (e.g. Salesforce, Slack, Airtable, Zoom, Google)
  • Demonstrated professionalism, tact, and maturity in handlinghighly sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Strong team-oriented work ethic with willingness and ability to work independently and autonomously
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work effectively in a large, complex, dynamic, and sophisticated organization
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; detail-oriented with the ability to meet tight deadlines
