Job Description

Summary:

HV Logic Ltd. is an Alberta-based High Voltage Electrical Engineering company that specializes in digital equipment in the power industry. Professional services include project consulting and management, substation electrical and relay settings design, automation logic, SCADA programming, network design and configuration, cyber security assessment and planning. HV Logic Ltd. has experience delivering results for a wide range of clients in the electric utilities, oil and gas, and renewables sectors in Alberta.

To support the growth of the company, HV Logic Ltd. is currently looking for a Junior Software Developer that is willing to learn or expand on specialized skills that are currently in high demand for the power industry. The successful candidate will be joining a small company with 30 years of industry experience.

Placement start date window: April 13 - May 11, 2026



Placement duration: up to two consecutive semesters (up to a total of 8 months)



Responsibilities:

Develop quality software and web applications

Analyze and maintain existing software applications

Design highly scalable, testable code

Discover and fix programming bugs

Development and customized programming as required .NET, C#, C, C++, python, java, React, etc.

Design, build, implement and maintain databases, scripts, views, functions and stored procedures within SQL/NoSQL server to support application software.

Documentation and user support of custom applications.

Willing and able to support company IT

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field

Development experience with programming languages

SQL database or relational database skills

Familiarity with Software on embedded or industrial hardware platforms

Approaches work with an interest and desire to learn. Self-sufficient independent learner capable of executing tasks/projects independently.

Experienced with computers, operating systems, cloud applications.

Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts.

Possess strong written and oral communication skills.

Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Advanced problem-solving skills.

Aptitude towards fast moving modern technologies and customizing/applying them to real world applications.

Experience with any of the following would be considered an asset:

Protocols such as SEL, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, and OPC

Ethernet IP networks, and serial communication.

Configuration of network switches, routers, firewalls, and gateways.

Communication troubleshooting software such as WireShark.

Network vulnerability testing tools such as Nmap port scans.

VMWare suite of virtual machine client and servers.

Personal interest in deploying custom software solutions to development boards such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino would be considered an asset.
