Job Description


Software Designer L3HARRIS WESCAM Division Hamilton, Ontario About the Role Our software teams work directly with our optics and hardware teams \xe2\x80\x93 developing code that manages all of our systems controllers and actuators, telephoto lenses or targeting & tracking systems - and in particular, code that allows those captured images to be defined and managed. We develop advanced real time software for various applications and processors, including new payloads like complex imagers, laser illuminators & targeting designators, range finders and trackers. We develop the embedded controls and user interfaces for complex electro-mechanical systems including remote I/O subsystems, custom lens controllers, and advanced video processing features. Primary Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of Senior Software Engineers and Designers, be a part of the software build and code development process for complex electro-optical surveillance systems
  • In collaboration with Design and R&D, help develop software code for the control of new sensor payloads
  • Provide support to Engineering, Manufacturing and Customer Support teams to solve software issues
  • Participate in the estimation and planning of new products and features
  • Participate as a software team member within an Agile development process
  • Participate in continuous department improvement processes
Required Capabilities
  • Proven experience developing with embedded C and C++ for real-time systems
  • Practical knowledge of software engineering obtained through advanced education and experience
  • Strong technical and analytic skills
  • Ability to understand the operation and design of complex electro-optical systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn and grow within a fast paced environment
  • Experience with Python and various scripting languages
  • Experience with real time operating systems and Embedded Linux
  • Understanding of embedded communications standards such as I2C, SPI, CAN, Serial, Ethernet
  • Familiarity with Windows, Linux and comfortable working in a PC environment
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical and optical sensors or lasers
  • Familiarity with control loop theory and practical experience
  • Familiarity with machine vision or image processing
Desired Education
  • Requires proficient knowledge of job area. May have practical knowledge of project management.
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience, or
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience, or
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
