This posting is for one (1) Temporary Full-Time position that may continue until December 31, 2025The Youth Services Section of the Edmonton Police Service requires a Youth Justice Coordinator whose primary focus will be to identify opportunities for justice involved youth to connect with professional/community supports and programming that promotes accountability for their actions, which in turn will lessen the chances of re-offending. This position will work closely alongside the many facets of Alberta Justice, including at the time of charge, upon release, and during community supervision to ensure the recommended release plans, programming and supports are meeting the needs of the youth and the community. Additionally, this position will work to address and bring accountability to system level support and referral challenges by developing and fostering professional working relationships. The Youth Justice Coordinator will also provide supervision to the Youth Referral Coordinator position, who's role is to provide system navigation and referral pathways for high risk and at-risk youth.This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong collaborative partnerships externally and across all areas of the organization. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Recommend, advocate and monitor support for complex, justice involved youth.
  • Attend youth justice court to advocate and provide appropriate contextual information on behalf of the youth and/or involved service team.
  • Ensure adequate professional and community resources are in place for complex, justice involved youth; including custody release plans.
  • Advocate for and support the coordination of PSECA, PCHAD and secure orders as required and ensure appropriate release plans are in place.
  • Work to address system gaps that leave youth unsupported or place the community at risk.
  • Act as a police liaison with justice partners to help bridge the custody to community transition.
  • At a systems level, work with professional, justice and community agencies to address system challenges that leave justice involved youth unsupported.
  • Participate and/or lead complex case reviews that require a systems level approach.
  • Promote healthy external partnerships with both professional and community-based referral agencies serving justice involved youth.
  • Sustain both informal and formal arrangements with a wide variety of youth serving agencies.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary training opportunities to enhance knowledge, trust and resiliency.
  • Increase awareness of resources available to at-risk, justice involved youth populations.
  • Participate in capacity building community and professional presentations as requested by leadership.
  • Support the Youth Referral Coordinators role by providing guidance and/or taking on complex coordination files that require a systems level approach.
  • Initiate and participate in Youth Support Circles as required alongside diverse community partners to create customized intervention and support plans.
  • Report on positive outcomes and learnings weekly, quarterly and annually (both internally and externally as required).
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree in Social Work, plus a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in the provision of social services, involving individual/group programs, family counselling and organizational and/or community development work.
  • Must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
  • Thorough knowledge of professional social work principles, techniques, practices, and methodology; knowledge of individual and group dynamics, community organization/community development; understanding of principles of administration and styles of supervision.
  • Knowledge of current literature, trends and developments in the field of social work, social policy, psychology and sociology and other social sciences.
  • Ability to understand, accept and respect the needs and rights of others and to work with all people who require the assistance of the Edmonton Police.
  • Ability to conduct effective interviews and establish good rapport with clients.
  • Ability to plan, lead and develop community involvement..
  • Ability to develop workload plans and manage workloads.
  • Ability to operate within multidisciplinary teams and partnerships.
  • Effective communication skills to develop intervention plans appropriate to the clientxe2x80x99s needs.
  • Ability to provide leadership and supervision.
  • Ability to develop and prepare comprehensive case histories and reports.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing, including making public presentations.
  • Ability to negotiate and represent the Edmonton Police Service effectively with other agencies or government departments.
  • Ability to respond to difficult situations and resolve conflicts
  • Experience working in a policing environment and operating EPS information systems (CPIC, JOIN and NICHE UA) is an asset.
  • Advanced understanding of youth services systems within the health sector, housing, income support, justice and community services is an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of trauma informed practice, indigenous ceremony and teachings, youth brain development/cognitive behavior theory is an asset.
  • Advanced understanding of the youth criminal justice system is an asset.
  • Completion of cultural competency training is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driverxe2x80x99s License required. Must have or qualify for a City of Edmonton driving permit OR must b e willing to provide own vehicle and proof of business related public liability and damage issuance of $1,000,000. The Edmonton Police Service does provide mileage compensation.
Hours of Work: 40.00 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.Salary Range: $40.72 - $51.12 (Hourly), $3,258.20 - $4,090.50 (Bi-Weekly), $85,037.98 - $106,761.53 (AnnuallyThese rates are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.General:
