Come join our team!OverviewUnder the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Shift Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of residential daily operations. The position is also responsible for completing and maintaining administrative records for Ontario Court of Justice (e.g., Warrants), Justice Video Network (JVN) Video, Immediate/Vacant Shift Scheduling, Admissions/Discharges, young person mail (correspondence). The Shift Coordinator will direct and delegate, Youth Justice Officers to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and young persons. The position is responsible to coordinate and assign staff for duties to ensure completion of unit/floor ratios, community appointments, and educational support. The position will maintain logbooks, other documentation, and records management as required. The Shift Coordinator will ensure that directives of the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) and Ray of Hope Secure Policy and Procedure (ROHS P&P) are applied appropriately and consistently.Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and support to Youth Justice Officers in decision-making and crisis management.
  • Engage in behavioural interventions using approved methods and training (E.G. Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour)
  • Implement appropriate methods of discipline for the young persons in the facility in accordance with ROHS P&P
  • Assigns and coordinates staff for responsibilities throughout the facilities and program
  • Complete Admission and Discharge documentation (E.G. ROHS P&P)
  • Prepare, complete and review Logbooks, Incident Reports, Serious Occurrence Reports, and non-inclusive of MCCSS and other documentation
  • Maintain Employee Job Performance file(s) and other documentation as required
  • Establish professional, supportive, and wholesome relationships with young person guardian/parent, YJS Probation, and other professionals
  • Support the Office Manager in communication and ensuring compliance to prescription administration, medical emergency, and other health needs of young persons
  • Support the Educational Programming, Chaplain and Case Management Coordinator in acknowledging the ethnic, heritage, cultural and spiritual needs of young persons
  • Fill vacant/immediate shifts after 2-week Master Schedule is posted
  • Follow staff on-boarding, job performance and team plans as developed by Team Lead
  • Facilitate New Hires (staff) job shadowing and complete Performance Evaluation during Day 2-4, as assigned by Operations Manager
  • Lead shift changeover meetings, provide written documentation for case management plan meetings (as requested), and ROHS committees (as may be assigned by the management team)
  • Attend public, education, MCCSS or other meetings and trainings as required
  • Contribute and participate in the upkeep and maintenance of property by ensuring that any safety (maintenance), workplace hazards are reported to the Maintenance Coordinator in a timely fashion (company email at time of incident)
  • Follow occupational health and safety policies and programs, and report (company email) and act on unsafe working conditions or work environment to the Maintenance Coordinator, Security Officers and ROHS Joint Health and Safety
  • Ensure security and emergency procedures (e.g., young person\'s mail/correspondences, internal/external perimeter check) complies with ROHS P&P
  • Participate as designate Operations Manager in the \xe2\x80\x9con-call\xe2\x80\x9d system as an On-Call Manager
  • Participate as a designate Operations Manager for the assessment and placement of youth in secure detention with the approval of MCCSS
  • Assume other duties as may be assigned
General Program Responsibilities
  • The Shift Coordinator will have significant contact with internal parties such as Youth Justice Officers, Security Officers, Operations Manager, Office Manager and other members of facility staff. They will also have contact with community professionals such a Police Services, Probation Officers, Ontario Court of Justice, etc. Significant collaboration with other Shift Coordinators, Team Lead and Management of Ray of Hope Secure is required.
Qualifications
Education
  • Completion of post-secondary education (Minimum 3 Year Diploma/Degree) in a related field (such as social work, child, and youth work); or
  • No education required with five (5) years of related experience working with young people who are in conflict with the law
Experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years\' experience in a full-time youth care worker position or equivalent position
  • Previous supervisory experience
Preferred Certifications (ongoing training will be provided)
  • Must be able to successfully complete Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) Certificate. (Ray of Hope provides this training)
  • Level C CPR, First Aid/AED Training
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities required to be successful in this position
  • Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of Ray of Hope Secure program philosophy (PBIS values), and policy and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability in coordinating team and providing direction to subordinates, leadership skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of high-risk offenders
  • Demonstrated ability to prevent and/or manage aggressive behaviours through various means, including physical intervention
  • Proven ability to identify and manage group dynamics and team collaboration
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and rights as they apply to youth in the program (YCJA, MCCSS-YJS) as well as residential Youth Justice Officers (Ray of Hope Employee Handbook)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Children\'s Residential Service System
  • High level of empathy and listening skills
  • Ability to manage workload and give priority to tasks
  • Proven problem identification and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated communication skills

  • Valid, unrestricted Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d Ontario Driver\'s licence
  • Ministry of Transportation Drivers Abstract through Service Ontario
  • Employment Medical Form including immunization record
