DYLOTT is a leadership incubator that delivers a variety of youth programs intentionally designed to ensure young Black leaders have the tools to excel in the current and emerging Canadian and International job market. Our programs are designed to address barriers to social inclusion in employment, education and the broader social context. Our culturally responsive supports and services provide: Mentoring and mentorship opportunities, Intensive training and skill development, and Innovative Sector-specific knowledge.
DYLOTT is seeking a Social Worker to help serve the Black young professionals\xe2\x80\x99 community that we have a presence in. The ideal social worker candidate will lead the development and facilitation of the internship and mentorship component for the Black Diplomats Academy program. This candidate will guide the professional development activities for the Academy with a specific focus on career needs assessment for opportunities in the international affairs and multilateral diplomacy space. The Social Worker will provide case management expertise across the current cohort of the Academy in relation to internship and mentoring agreements with Global Affairs Canada departments, parliamentary and senate offices, the broader federal public service, provincial departments and non-governmental organizations while providing continuation of wraparound support services to program alumni.
Job Duties

  • Provide young professionals ages 18-35 with wraparound supports - mental health, job placement matching, career supports, internship placement and progress tracking.
  • Assists with outreach for placement opportunities in alignment with Global Affairs Canada and Parliamentary internship intake schedules.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual presentations (high schools, colleges and universities.)
  • Organize, plan and coordinate meetings, and appointments with fellows, recruiters and other relevant partners as required.
  • Collaboratively develop goals and a plan for successful completion of mentorship and internship components of the program with fellows and employment partners of the Academy based on academic sessional schedules (fall, winter, spring and summer intake periods).
  • Co-facilitate learning lab sessions with the program manager.
  • Liaise, consult and collaborate with other service providers and make appropriate use of community resources and the diplomatic network.
  • Assist in the creation of alumni platform to track employment trajectory of program graduates.
  • Contribute to primary research production through data collection and report writing on the priorities of the Academy in relation to the Permanent Forum for People of African Descent and the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Provide support to Academy staff to plan and deliver the Black Diplomacy Global Summit, assisting with the preparation of fellows\xe2\x80\x99 working papers.
  • Record keeping, data collection and leading program meetings.
  • Supporting the policy leadership work of the Executive Director
  • Contacting and making referrals to other agencies and services as required
  • Creates a plan to respond to risk, safety and well-being.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements
  • BSW/ MSW degree and registration with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (CSWSSW).
  • At least 2 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in employment placement and career/professional development programming, focus group facilitation and research.
  • Good understanding of Anti-Black Racism Theorizing within government institutions.
  • Experience in navigating various relevant systems (education, employment placement, etc.) Understanding of anti-oppression practices and barriers faced by Black youth in Ontario and across Canada.
  • Experience working with clients that are affected by mental health, career progression barriers and anti-Black systemic racism.
  • Ability to give full attention to what social service clients are saying, understand the points being made, ask questions, and not interrupt inappropriately.
  • Awareness of others\xe2\x80\x99 reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Ability to judge the relative costs and benefits of potential social service and health care actions and choose the most appropriate one.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism while empathizing with clients when they are upset.
  • Ability to provide assessment, referral, counseling, network building and follow up services to clients.
  • Excellent communication skills- written skills for the completion of documents, reports, and case notes - verbal skills for communication on a one-to-one basis with fellows and program partners.
  • Must be able to conduct effective outreach and expand the existing diplomatic network.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet the demands of the program.
  • The ability to speak other relevant languages is an asset.
  • Candidate must identify as a member of the Black community
