Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, performs professional social work of advanced complexity. Assists in resolving complex psychosocial problems. Carries out a variety of casework and counselling methods; consults extensively with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patient\'s situation and participates in the training of Social Work students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Masters of Social Work degree (M.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work required. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.

Currently this Masters Degree of Social Work position is located on the Neurosciences unit at the Victoria General Hospital. The Social Worker works in team based care - providing social work services in planning complex discharges with clients and their families. Clients admitted to this unit have sustained a brain injury, spinal cord injury, a cancer diagnosis or other traumas that impact their lives both physically and cognitively. Services include short term counselling related to grief and loss, adjustment to diagnosis and change of health status, support to accessing resources and services to return to the community as well as complex discharge planning. All social workers in hospital are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and must investigate, assess and intervene in all matters related to Adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Social Workers work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Families in matters pertaining to child protection.
