Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, performs professional social work of advanced complexity. Assists in resolving complex psychosocial problems. Carries out a variety of casework and counselling methods; consults extensively with hospital staff and community agencies regarding the psychosocial aspects of the patient\'s situation and participates in the training of Social Work students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Masters of Social Work degree (M.S.W.) from an accredited school of Social Work required. Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers. Related social work experience, preferably in a medical setting, and demonstrated clinical competence.

Currently this Masters degree of Social Work position is located in the Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) at the Royal Jubilee Hospital working on an inter-professional team that includes PSYCH RNs and Psychiatrists . This position has a rotation that includes working 4 & 5 shifts on and 4 & 5 shifts off that are extended hours of 8:00 to 19:42. Previous clinical experience and knowledge working in the area of mental health and substance use will be an asset. The social worker will be utilizing advance clinical skills, knowledge and interventions in PES. Key roles are: 1. triage of new referrals with initial screening and consultation with on-shift staff; 2. providing psycho-social, mental health, risk assessments, and gathering collateral information to support a client centred plan for discharge to the community; 3. engages in short-term crisis stabilization counselling with the clients and their families; 3. developing plans for community follow-up and refer to service providers; 4. engages in front-line liaison with service providers to support client continuity of care; 5. develop with health care team and partners complex care plan to support the client. All social workers are Designated Responders under the Adult Guardianship Act and are to investigate, assess and intervene in all allegations of Adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Social workers work collaboratively with the Ministry of Children and Families in matters concerning child protection. All social workers in British Columbia working in acute care hospitals must be registered with the B.C. College of Social Workers. NOTE: this position is a combination of GRADE 1 and GRADE 2 wage rates with after hours and weekend shifts.
