Hours Your hours of work will follow the flexible work schedule in accordance with Article 19.01(a) of the NAPE-HP Collective Agreement, based on 150 hours in a 4-week period (by mutual agreement). Hours worked are usually 8- hour day shifts.

Job Summary
The Mental Health Social Worker is responsible for providing clinical services including mental health assessment and therapeutic intervention to children, adolescents, adults, and families within a community mental health setting. This may entail the provision of outreach clinics. Duties may also include participation in mental health promotion and community mobilization. The Social Worker will be expected to provide field instruction for Social Work students.

This position maintains accountability to the Social Work Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Occasionally, there is lifting, or physical strength required to lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
Regularly sits to consult with clients, conduct therapeutic sessions, and to work on the computer.
Occasionally works in awkward or cramped body positions; pushes, pulls, and sets up furniture for group work, and drives to conduct home visits with clients.
Regularly uses fine finger/precision work on a computer.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with an accredited Bachelor of Social Work Degree is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
Minimum of two years of experience within the last four working in a mental health and addictions program is required.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.
Knowledge of community resources, systems, and programs.
Knowledge of mental health and addictions issues, treatments, and available services.
Knowledge of specific mental health approaches including supportive counseling and crisis intervention.
Knowledge of case management.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment and interventions with individuals, families, and groups.
Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
The use of a private vehicle is a condition for employment as travel in the region may be required.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
