Job Summary
The Mental Health Social Worker is responsible for providing clinical services including mental health assessment and therapeutic intervention to children, adolescents, adults and families within a community mental health setting. This may entail the provision of outreach clinics. Duties may also include participation in mental health promotion and community mobilization. The Social Worker will also be expected to provide field instruction for Social Work students.
This position maintains accountability to the Social Work Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and professional practice issues.

Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required to lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
Regularly sits to consult with clients, conduct therapeutic sessions, and to work on the computer.
Occasionally works in awkward or cramped body positions; pushes, pulls, and sets up furniture for group work, and drives to conduct home visits with clients.
Regularly uses fine-finger/precision work on a computer.
Job Qualifications
Graduation with an accredited Bachelor of Social Work Degree is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
Minimum of two years of experience within the last four working in a mental health and addictions program is required.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.
Knowledge of community resources, systems and programs.
Knowledge of mental health and addictions issues, treatments and available services.
Knowledge of specific mental health approaches including supportive counseling and crisis intervention.
Knowledge of case management.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment and interventions with individuals, families and groups.
Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Conditions of employment include the use of a private vehicle.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
