Our Team

Indigenous and Community relations is an important part of the success of the Manitoba Operations. Vale works closely with the community and is engaged in building meaningful relationships. This role will support the Specialist Indigenous and Community Relations who holds and maintains relationships with Indigenous communities and stakeholders for Vale operations in Manitoba. The objective is to maintain Vale\xe2\x80\x99s social license to operate.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Social Science Co-op Student to join our Manitoba Corporate Affairs \xe2\x80\x93 Indigenous and Community Relations team in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a fixed-term position for a duration of 4 months, beginning in May 2024.

As a Social Science Co-op Student, you will undertake the duties required to assist in maintaining and building relationships through open and transparent dialogue that are aligned with Vale\xe2\x80\x99s social goals.

Additionally In this position, you will:

Support engagement with local communities.

Support Indigenous awareness.

Tracking community priorities.

Undertake benchmarking related to Indigenous Relations and Community Investment.

About You

Education:

  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in a Social Science Discipline preferably in Business Administration, Geography, Indigenous studies, Social Work or Communication Studies program.
Experience:
  • Experience in an industrial environment will be considered an asset.
Skills:
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
  • Organizational, interpersonal communication, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a proven safety record are essential.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ensure compliance to the applicable regulations, standards and guidelines.
  • Utilize good engineering practices while minimizing costs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products to include Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook. Basic to intermediate proficiency in Deswik or other mine planning software preferred.
  • Monitor process parameters and communicate changes outside normal operational conditions to supervisor.
  • Maintain a high level of professional conduct.
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
  • Complete assigned projects safely and on time
