Reporting to the Manager, Sr. Converting, the
Slitting Manager
plays a key leadership role in driving the success of the Slitting department. In this position, you'll lead a team of supervisors and their crews to ensure a safe workplace, deliver high-quality output, and maintain strong productivity levels.
You'll also be a champion of continuous improvement--leveraging Lean principles, root cause analysis, and corrective action to make lasting impacts. This role is an opportunity to lead, inspire, and support your team while contributing directly to the achievement of personal, departmental, and company-wide goals. Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Development
Work with supervisors and crews to establish department goals and objectives aligned with the company's overall strategic direction. Monitor progress and adjust as needed.
Annually set goals/objectives for salaried direct reports utilizing the Talent Management module.
Develop, monitor, and maintain succession plans for key roles to optimize knowledge transfer.
Oversee all training records to ensure compliance with company policies.
Ensure own and employee behaviors align with Winpak Values, providing coaching where needed.
Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication across crews and within the company.
Operational Excellence & Performance Management
Maintain production requirements for safety, quality, productivity, excess waste, staffing levels, training, and housekeeping. Measure and report progress against budgets, external standards, and historical data.
Provide leadership to implement continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and productivity.
Work with the Winpak Division Management Team to improve overall performance.
Participate in Total Quality Improvement programs and support ongoing registration to ISO 9001-2015, SQF Code, IMS certification, and other internal quality standards.
Technical & Process Improvement
Develop and enhance production systems to ensure consistent product quality.
Participate with the Technical Department in New Product Development and process improvement initiatives.
Collaborate as a team member in the specification, installation, and commissioning of new equipment, as well as improvements to existing equipment.
Partner with Maintenance/Engineering to improve equipment reliability and minimize maintenance costs.
Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through supplier relationships, industry publications, seminars, and exchanges with Winpak/Wipak operations.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment
3+ years of experience in a production environment that operated on a 24/7 schedule, managing teams where safety and quality are key priorities
3+ years of experience proficiently using technology such as Microsoft office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
Experience in managing operations costs, budgets, KPIs, and metrics
Experience communicating and collaborating with senior leadership and other internal stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
Post-secondary educational in a technical field would be beneficial
Experience within the plastic, films, converting or packaging industry
Experience building trusting relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Experience coaching, guiding and mentoring teams while aligning with company mission, vision and values
Experience with unionized environments
Additional Details:
This position requires 50% time in a manufacturing environment
