Job Description

Looking for energetic ski and snowboard instructors to join us for this winter season! We are willing to send the right candidates for training, but applicants must have the applicable skill level on the hill to be able to pass the course. We would like team members who have a lot of energy and want to spend the winter teaching others to enjoy the slopes! Must like children, be friendly and outgoing.

Ski & Snowboard Instructors at Tawatinaw Valley will report directly to the Facility Supervisor. Instructs skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities how to improve their ski/ride skill, while providing a fun and effective learning environment. Instructs groups and /or individuals in a fun lesson format. Teaches proper technique appropriate to the ability level of those being instructed. Promotes safety and gives students the knowledge to remain safe when they leave lessons to ski/ride on their own.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Instruct and coach guests of all levels, while staying within the CSIA/CASI certification level. Teach private lessons, complete evaluation reports and other administrative reports as required. Help organize and create school group, Snow Squad and other program itinerary plans and participate in training clinics as required. Ensure public and personal safety when using the ski lift. Take photos / video of lesson / school / program participants (when given permission) for use on website / marketing / social media. Perform general labour and maintenance tasks on the hill as required. Assist customers in the rental shop whenever necessary. Adhere to and be familiar with the Alpine Responsibility Code. Participate in any Safety Management/Injury programs and abide by Policies and Procedures. Maintain and promote staff morale through positive attitudes and social aspects of the Tawatinaw Valley working environment. We are a team at Tawatinaw Valley and as a member of that team, you may be asked to assist other departments or you may draw upon help from other staff members to help you achieve your goals. Additional tasks may include general and/or enhanced cleaning procedures. Through this type of environment, we ensure Tawatinaw Valley is coherent and operated efficiently. Ensure that the Tawatinaw Valley safety program is administered and upheld within your department. Act as a liaison with the Facility Supervisor for Workplace Health & Safety issues. Assist with the Joint Health and Safety Committee when required. Perform other responsibilities when required or as directed by the Facility Supervisor. Adheres to all policies, procedures and processes relating to Public Health, Occupational Health & Safety and maintaining a safe work place.
SKILLS, INTERESTS, VALUES

Friendly, outgoing personality and good people skills. Patience, and a love of the outdoors and teaching. Ability to ski /snowboard safely and confidently in all conditions and in varying types of terrain. Creating an encouraging and supportive environment for learners is essential to this position. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to deal with a variety of people.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work hours may vary with customer demand. May be required to work weekends, weekdays and holidays. Work is subject to extreme and changing weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

CSIA/CASI certification or equivalent. Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance or Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors certification required, Levels 1 - 4. If you are interested in teaching others, but are not certified --Tawatinaw Valley may hold a Level 1 Certification Courses on site in our early season. Courses are offered at other ski resorts as well. Must successfully complete instructor training. Must maintain annual CSIA/CASI membership. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and motivational skills. Must be able to work in a team environment. Strong customer service skills.

HEALTH & SAFETY HAZARDS

Physically demanding job tasks. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. May push, pull or lift items weighing up to 75 pounds occasionally, and carry items up to 50 pounds frequently.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 - 30 per week
